CHICAGO – History made. The Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team continued its rule over the NCAA, winning its fourth consecutive national title Saturday night.

The Sooners cemented their dynasty with a 414.858 first-place finish at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

OU became just the third program in history to win at least four consecutive national titles (Illinois from 1939 to 1942 and Nebraska from 1979 to 1982). The title is also the Sooners’ 12th overall – tying them with Penn State for most in NCAA history – and the ninth of head coach Mark Williams’ 19-year tenure. Williams is now tied with Penn State’s Gene Wettstone for most national championships of any coach in history.

(WOMEN) Sooners Finish 2018 As National Runners-Up

ST. LOUIS —An incredible season came to a heartbreaking end Saturday night as the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team finished as the runner-up at the 2018 NCAA Super Six in St. Louis.

The Sooners recorded a team score of 198.0375 but were bested by UCLA's 198.0750 as the Bruins won the meet with a 10.0 from Peng-Peng Lee on beam in the final rotation. For the 10th time this season, the Sooners finished with a score of 198.000 or better.

“Honestly we did everything that we could,” OU head coach K.J. Kindler said. “We handled that really tough rotation, first rotation on balance beam. Everyone responded when we had that mistake and did the best routines that they have ever done. We just kept fighting all through the meet. We’ve been in a couple of close meets this year and we fought through it and it felt just like that against UCLA and against Florida. We’ve been there before, and they never gave up. At the end of the day it just wasn’t quite enough.”
