Sydney Manning caught the pass in the corner and instantly fired the shot with perfect form.

It had perfect accuracy, too, as it fell through the net.

On the next possession, she fired a pass to Karlie Owens, leading to an easy basket. Manning later emphatically blocked a shot out of bounds.

In her first and only season in Class 2A since moving from Class 6A Deer Creek, Manning is loving her new surroundings, and it shows.

She scored 24 points in No. 2 Cashion’s 63-29 dominance of Class A No. 4 Okarche to win the Three Rivers Conference championship Saturday in Kingfisher’s gym.

“Did you see this place? It’s packed,” Manning said. “I love small-school basketball. It’s so fun. The whole town supports you. When you lose it doesn’t feel like a loss, because everyone is so supportive.

“I love it here.”

Cashion’s defense was too much for Okarche. The Wildcats led 19-1 after one quarter, using 10 turnovers to their advantage. They forced a total of 19 turnovers.

Okarche eventually got going, but it was Manning who restored order with a deep 3-pointer that made it a 17-point game with 3:10 left in the third.
“She played great,” Cashion coach and Sydney’s mom Totsy Manning said. “When she gets going early our team goes and they feed off of that. There was lots of energy tonight.”

Manning, who was on The Oklahoman’s Super 5 last season, moved in the offseason after Cashion hired Totsy as its new coach. Sydney has signed to play at Missouri State.
