Manning Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury

Baylor has had a bunch of ACL injuries...I remember one year (somewhere around 2006) they had so many they were down to 7 healthy players. I can remember Tennessee having several (Alyessia Brewer and Vicki Baugh come to mind quickly) knee injuries. It is just a problem for everyone.

Just to clarify, Brewer never had an ACL injury; She had a similar injury to Kaylon: achilles tendon rupture. Vicki Baugh, however, had multiple ACL tears.

It seems that they occur most of the time in practice & not as often during games. I wonder if it has something to do with concentration on the drills you are doing & not letting your body & mind be free flowing as it is during game situations.

I seem to remember that Chelsi's was doing layup drills.

Whitney's happened due to a damp spot on the court, if I remember correctly. I can't remember how Caton or Stacey's happened.

They spend a lot more time in practice than games. I think if you could chart injuries per hour, they are more likely to happen in a game because they are going harder, or take contact.

Maryland has lost at least two players (supposedly three) to ACLs this year, and one occurred in a game (Mincy), while the other was during a preseason scrimmage. However, if you look at other recent ACLs, most of them tend to come from practice. Going hard in a game sounds like an explanatory factor in theory, but I think the first part of your statement says it all, Tango.

Just seems like we have more acl type injuries than other top programs; ie U Conn, Baylor,
A&M, NDame, Tennessee. Maybe they have more than we know about???

Who was that really good guard at UCONN - think last year was her senior year - that had like two or thee ACLs. Happens to everyone.

Caton's happened in a game. As I remember it, she wasn't doing anything more strenuous than turning to go back down court after the opposing team's made basket. She dropped like she'd been poleaxed. According to the next season's media guide, that occurred 1 minute into the 3rd game of the season, November 26, 2002, against Sam Houston State.

:facepalm

Erin Higgins went down earlier that same day in the shoot around.

On HoopScoop, MRED, an ISU fan reports:
"This was brought up on the ISU board, and we came to the realization that both recentish ISU players from Ankeny also tore their ACLs in college: Erica Junod and Nicky Wieben. Probably just a really weird coincidence."

We could use all 3 of our injured players. I think 2 of them would hbe getting major minutes and the other one around 8 to 10 minutes a game. We have had more than our share of season ending injuries.

I just watch Connecticut take Maryland apart. They used only seven players until the closing minutes of the game. With the game out of reach, they let three players play, including Kiah Stokes.

They also mentioned that Maryland had lost 2 players to ACL injuries within the last couple of weeks.

Here is a quote from the ESPN article on the game with UConn...it is those 2 recently and another earlier for a total of 3 for the year:

The Terrapins were playing without guards Laurin Mincy and Brene Moseley. Both suffered ACL injuries this season. Mincy tore the ACL in her right knee early in the second half of Maryland's win over Nebraska last Wednesday. Moseley injured her left knee on Oct. 21. Moseley was the third ACL injury for the Terps this season. Senior center Essence Townsend tore hers in an exhibition game in early October.
