Just an FYI to anyone else traveling to Baton Rouge for the OU-LSU game on Saturday, January 30. Two Mardi Gras parades will be rolling around downtown Baton Rouge on the Friday and Saturday of the OU–LSU weekend.

Friday, Jan 29: http://www.kreweofartemis.net/
Starts rolling at 7pm

Saturday, Jan 30: http://www.krewemystique.com/
Starts rolling at 2pm
Same route as the Friday parade: http://www.krewemystique.com/pdf/15_route.pdf

Both parades go right by the downtown Hilton where I am staying. I enjoy the Louisiana culture (especially the food) and this will be my first experience with Mardi Gras. The celebrations are not limited to New Orleans, but take place throughout the state.

Being a SoonerTraveler, it is good to plan ahead. Very good restaurants in Baton Rouge. Might have to drive over to NOLA one afternoon to have lunch at Mother’s. Tough choice between a Po’ Boy or a Crawfish Étouffée Omelet. Yum.

Win or lose, these trips are fun.

I'm not a fan of New Orleans or Louisiana in general, but Baton Rouge is by far the best city in that state. Having traveled there a few time on business, it's a fun place to spend a day or two and probably has something for everyone's taste.

Louisiana is interesting, to say the least. People, places, and things going on. I've never had a bad trip to NOLA or Baton Rouge. It is a big advantage to travel with a local, as one of my best friends was born and raised in NOLA (lives in OKC). It is like having a tour guide. I have attended LSU football games in Tiger Stadium and have seen some good games against teams like Bama and Florida. I have had an "insiders" tour of the facilities within Tiger Stadium. I have also attended LSU football road games at places like Auburn and Miss. State. In September, I will travel to the LSU-Wisconsin game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

I also spent a lot of time in Lafayette back in my working life. Always enjoyed my stays there. Never tried the Boudin though. Raw Oysters, yes. But not the Boudin.

This will be my first basketball game in the state of Louisiana.
