My experience in Baton Rouge

All I have to say is that Traveler must look like the nicest guy in the world to not have any trouble down there. :D

Thanks for the post.

Glad you had a great experience there Traveler..curious as to how the PMAC sounded to you as Buddy was reigning 3s during their comeback and how people around you reacted to that LSU drive at the buzzer that Lattin blocked

Thanks! The PMAC sounded as you would expect when Buddy started pouring in the treys. It would momentarily hush the crowd, and you would hear the laments from nearby fans, such as ... "c'mon Tigers, you have got to guard that guy."

It was somewhat funny. When Buddy took a shot late in the game, it seemed the LSU fans just assumed it was going in. Buddy is really an amazing player. We see it all season long, but opposing fans are a bit awestruck when they see Buddy's offensive skills in person.

On the last drive and Khadeem's block, there was obviously disappointment. Some fans thought a foul should have been called against Khadeem on the play. Again, this is the same normal reaction one sees in any arena around the country.

In going to these recent road games (Baylor & LSU), I cannot emphasize how big of a deal it is for the #1 ranked team to be in the house. There is extra "juice" in the arena. Playing against OU is a big deal. The fact that OU can pull out these victories inside a very loud and packed arena is also a big deal.

Regarding the F-U chant, I did hear that the students were doing a chant inside the arena, but I could not make out what was being said. I asked my friends at the time if they could understand what was being chanted, but they could not. I have since watched a replay on TV, and of course there is no doubt about that poor display of sportsmanship.

I was at the OU-LSU Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, and to other Sugar Bowl games (e.g., Bama-LSU national championship game). I have also been to multiple LSU football games in Baton Rouge, seeing LSU play opponents like Florida and Alabama. There is no doubt that New Orleans can be a much harsher environment for a visiting fan. Baton Rouge is not New Orleans, although I enjoy visiting both places.

The Tiger-Bait thing: If you go to a game at Florida as a visiting fan, you will experience the "Gator-Bait" chant. If you go to an LSU game as a visiting fan, you will experience the "Tiger-Bait" chant. This is just one of their "traditions" and it does not seem to bother other SEC fans as they are used to it. In the SEC, it is no bigger deal than the Mississippi State fans ringing their cow bells.

The reason I mention this is that I have heard some OU fans over the years comment about how they felt these "tiger-bait" chants were out of line, or unsportsmanlike, or almost intimidating. If OU were ever to join the SEC, get ready to experience similar chants at other conference games. That is life in the SEC. The SEC fans have fun with it, because they are used to it.
