Marist

Plumley could make the bounce pass into the post, which is why she was inserted into the starting lineup as a freshman. BTW, what became of her?

I believe she had off the court/character issues.

A really enjoyable game for me. To see an undermanned team play with passion like the Marist Red Foxes did today, was a treat. Probably one of the few really solid fundamental teams we will see all year. I was impressed with their floor spacing. Especially drawing out Nicole from the post, allowing their players to cut behind or off side away from her for several of the lay ups they made today. Sherri really needs to work on help side defense on cuts and drives to the basket, it could kill us later down the road against more talented teams.

Overall, I thought defensively we played very well. Forcing Marist into last second shot clock shots was good stuff. Whitney, Jo, and Morgan came to play and did the little things when we needed a lift. I agree with the bounce passes to the post. We have a 6'6 girl, go high and away from the defense. Basic basketball 101. The block outs on the boards are getting a lot better, and Jo is beginning to get back into form, defensively, on the glass, and getting a little more comfortable offensively. I thought Sherri got a little out coached today, but did an admirable job of using her substitutions in the right time. Marist played exactly how I thought they would and gave us a game that will benefit us down the road. A tough win from a very good opponent, hopefully there will be more like this down the road.

Sherri is going to have her hands full this year because of how short-handed we are. We only shot 26% from behind the arc. Normally our strength is shooting 3 pointers. When our starters are having trouble making shots, Sherri will have to be creative to score points. We have gotten good scoring help from Griffin but she wasn't very productive today.

I thought Portia showed some promise tonight. She still has a long way to go to really fit into the offensive and defensive schemes, but she's showing a real nose for the rebound that's lacking in our other posts.

Of our injured players on the bench only Lindsey Cloman wore a school color to the game. Manning had a yellow outfit on (This isn't Baylor) and Kay Kay did your mama dress you funny or have you not yet learned that it's not cool to wear orange and black while sitting on the bench :facepalm
I know this is America and you can choose what you want to wear, but when I go to an OU game I wear OU attire to show support to our team, so do most of the fans sitting in the crowd.

Well they attend OU, play basketball. and work hard everyday supporting their school. Sherri had on some God awful outfit that had nothing OU related in it. Don't forget to bag on her. And Cloman had on black which unless they've changed things isn't one of our colors either.

If you're so concerned about what the girls are wearing then grab your checkbook and take them to the mall.

:confused:Maybe a long year if we start picking apart what outfits our injured players should and should not wear to a game. But I will play that game why does a major program like OU, the state school does not have a single walkon? I'm assuming the last 3 or 4 years there is not one single girl in the state of Oklahoma good enough to practice and sit on the bench for Sherri.

Good question. Maybe it's not like walking on at UCONN or Stanford. Maybe girls that can't get a scholly at OU can still get one elsewhere. Some girls would rather take a free ride than pay for schooling. And, walking on usually means no playing time.

I'm sure the bball smarties here can answer it better. :ed

You can, but Sherry has seldom had that many on scholarship. It seems like the one year we did have a full roster, we couldn't take a transfer we would liked to have had.

Well it may bite her this year. How many transfers have we taken recently??

It is interesting that Marist "played well" while OU really didn't. Yet, Marist had 17 turnovers to OU's 19.

Most teams only use a 7 or 8 man rotation. We have 9, and we pretty much trust all 9 on the court. How is that going to bite us?

Thank you, very well said. History serves, that Sherri uses an 8 man rotation once the meat of the schedule comes around. I'm glad all 9 kids contribute quite well with very little drop off.

The main impact of a short bench is in practice. As they mentioned after the game last week, Sherry had to participate in some of the drills.

Here are the reserves:

Portia- she isn't playing as well as she needs to be in order to get many court minutes.

Jo- comes off the bench and has been playing well, although her shots haven't been falling.

Jaz- still a good defensive player but very limited on offense.

Sharane- lots of potential but at times it seems she loses focus and it also appears Sherri has her on a pretty short leash and is quick to take her out if she makes a mistake.

So, out of the 4 reserves, I would say only one (Jo) can be counted on. The others remind me of the box of chocolates that Forrest Gump talked about.

Losing Maddie really hurt.

Why cant we "count on" Jaz? She is a known quantity who is very consistent. I think that is the definition "count on."

If someone else gets hurt and foul trouble if they do.

In my opinion, consistency does not qualify someone to play D-1 ball. They can be consistently bad. Now, I'm not saying Jaz is consistently bad but she is not good on the offensive end which makes her limited in how much she can contribute. When you compare her to Nicole Kornet or Maddie Manning, she is a better defender than either of those girls but she is not considered (in my book) to be as good as either of them because you lose scoring potential with her in the lineup.
