Marist

I really like what Nicole Kornet is bringing to the starting line up, even if she doesn't make shots she keeps shooting, I like that in a player shes being aggressive and looking to score...

I also like her at the 4, you can tell she is atlest 6'1 she's taller then hand.

Kornet is shooting 40% from BTA which is very good! She will continue to get better and better over the next year or two.

Passing to the Post

It seems like looking at our team everyone tries to bounce the ball to the post instead of passing it over head, I wonder what’s the most effective way to get the ball to the Post? I wonder what Sherri is teaching them because Jasmine is a 5th year and she should know how to get the ball inside by now no excuse….

When you have a player who at 6'6" tall is almost always the tallest player on the court, it seems like a no-brainer that you pass the ball high, chest high or higher. I wonder if Sherri allows bounce passes to the post in practice.

At one point in the game yesterday, someone (don't remember who) made a bad bounce pass to the post that caused a turnover. Sherry immediately put Joanna in for that person and the next trip down the court, Joanna made a lob type pass to Nicole and she scored.

With us shooting so bad behind the arc I wonder why Kornet got so few minutes.

In the game after the last two times she scored a career high she has sat on the bench most of the game while we were shooting poorly from the outside.

Sherri seems to have all the newbies on a short leash. I wonder if that will serve her well later in the season.

In the radio post game Sherri was talking about playing defense vs Marist...they are an unusual offense playing a 5 out cutting/screening offense. She said that Portia and Nicole struggled playing defense from lack of experience vs this style of offense.

Actually, we shot quite well in the first half - 5 of 12. Where we were having problems was on ball defense; keeping the player in front of us. At this point, great defense is not Kornet's strong point.

I don't think anybody is particularly on a short leash. I think players are getting what they can handle. The Marist game (IMO) was more like a conference game than like some of the warmup games we have. This one was more about winning the game than about giving the new guys a lot of time.

I've heard Sherri say that young players can sometimes only give you 4 or 5 good minutes at a time where they remain well focused. She'll take them out, tell them something she wants them to improve on the next time they go in and then put them in again later.
