Marques Bolden Update

This article leads me to believe the he was specifically asked what stands out about Duke and UK and not OU or TCU. That said, OU and TCU are probably realistically both out of the mix. But I'm still holding my breath. ;)

Yeah, was holding out hope, but he isn't coming here. He takes our phone calls and likes our coaches, but we aren't a serious threat anymore than TCU is... Stinks but let's get focused on 2017

But only talks about Duke and Kentucky. Should be a free article to read:

"Kansas is out after they landed big man Udoka Azubuike and continue to pursue Maker."

Its baffling that Kansas is out b/c they landed Azubuike when Kentucky will have Willis, Lee, Labissiere, and Humphries returning and they already have 3 post players committed. Even if Labissiere bolts...Bolden will get less minutes playing for Kentucky than playing for KU.

If Jefferson doesn't return and redshirts...Bolden won't start for Duke next year either with Giles coming in. Even if Jefferson doesn't return, He still has to beat out Jeter. He will get the more minutes at Duke then Kentucky.

"Really just the opportunity to come in and play," Bolden told Scout.
For someone that talks about playing time being a huge factor, it makes no sense why Duke and Kentucky are his top 2.

He'd get a ton of playing time if he went to OU. Plus his parents won't have to uproot themselves to watch him play. PLUS, he'll get to come see Jeff Webster's jersey being lifted to the rafters.

I'm not sure why we can't land a north Texas star with Oklahoma connections but we've had our hopes dashed countless times.

Because in bball 9/10 times the big name recruit is going to the big name school to be showcased. All these kids at the top think they're gonna be 1 and done and want to go to the program that ll help make that happen.

Yeah, but all it takes is a guy like Ben Simmons to start a new trend. Here's a guy who went to a football school, a mediocre basketball program, a rather average basketball team and head coach...and he will still finish 3rd in National POY voting and will be the overall #1 pick without breaking a sweat.

Going to a top-level school will gives a guy a better chance to play in the Final Four...and for a top-level fan base. It will have no impact on what position they'll be drafted and how good of an NBA player they will be. For example, there isn't one player who ever came out of Duke who will end up as a better NBA player than Blake Griffin. Not a one.

cgates from Sooner Scoop went to the DeSoto playoff game tonight and had this report on Marques Bolden:
Had the chance to watch Marques and his Desoto team put in a dominant performance tonight. I sat behind his uncle and got a few tidbits, it isn't much, but a couple of interesting points.

1. Marques has not decided on a school and his opinion changes often. OU is still there and a realistic choice.

2. KU is out, they took another big as they didn't want to wait for Marques to decide.

3. Marques had an uncle who played football for Sooners, that was something I hadn't heard before.

I'll be honest, I get the feeling that Duke leads here. Duke has a history with Desoto as they recruited Matt Jones a couple of years ago. I also noticed that members of his family have had Duke apparel on every time I have seen them. No one has flat out told me Duke leads, but my gut tells me the things they don't say, speak loudly.

Enjoyed a good night of basketball and was glad to meet board member LenBias. Should be a great match up tomorrow when Desoto looks to avenge a loss to South Grand Prarie.

Hope to see some of you guys tomorrow at the TCU game.

How many scholarships does Duke have available? They just signed an Aussie to an already loaded 2016 class? I hope they fill up, along with KU and UK. That would significantly increase OU's chances.

Really feels like we're being Capel-ed with this kid.

If there is such a thing I think it would include us having only 2 guys for next year over 6'5" to show him how easy it is to get playing time. This year it's a want very much but don't have to get, the perfect situation to wait on a single recruit.

I know we are in a position where it's Bolden or nobody so from that perspective it really doesn't hurt waiting on him. Lon knows better then anybody when to cut your losses with a recruit but I've never gotten a good vibe regarding his recruitment.

2 guys over 6'5" next year? Huh? Lattin, Manyang, McNeace, and Freeman are all 6'9" or over. Buford, Doolittle, and even Odomes are 6'6" or over. Bolden is 2016 grad and those are all guys he would go against next year.

They just announced that Jefferson is out for the season so he will be back next year. So there went his shot at starting at duke. Jefferson and Giles will start next year.

That might have helped us out

cgates also said that Webster has been very pro-OU in this process. That's a big plus
