Today, we begin to get a picture of how far our young softball teams has to go to be a contender. This is a five-game test against much better quality than we have played since our first two games. Michigan is #2. Fresno State is #20. UCLA is #11. Our first game is against Oregon State who received votes (#32 in # of votes). Utah, is 8-3 having lost to three ranked teams. Our losses were to #21 Minnesota (5-4) and #9 Washington (9-1). We did beat Long Beach State, another team that received votes. We are #12.

We have about six four-hundred hitters, three of whom are first-year freshmen: Aviu, Romero, and Knighten. Clifton has been a pleasant surprise.

Stevens appears to be back. Finney pitched well in her start. Paige is Paige.

I think I'd be excited to come out of this with a 3-2 record. It's going to be very tough to win 5 tough teams back to back to back with all our youth.

Romero leads off with a double down the right field line.
Knighten popped to center.
Miller walked
Aviu fly to right. Romero and Miller moved up. The right fielder fell over the fence making the catch. But, they sent Romero back to third.
Self flied to deep left.

Edit: Apparently, since the outfield fences are temporary, play stops if the outfielder tumbles over the fence making a catch.

Oregon State
leadoff triple by Arriola, an outstanding hitter.
line out to second
anthony popped to left
Hampton struck out swinging
0-0 after one

Stevens appears to be back. In each of the three games that we have lost, Paige allowed a key home run. In every case, I think it was fatigue. She can go five. I'm not sure she can go more in one day.

I doubt Paige is as sharp as she has been. She is having a hard time throwing strikes. Her first pitch is rarely a strike and, even when she strikes out a batter it is often at a full count. She is throwing a lot of balls compared to strikes.

Already down to Mich, 1-0. I'm afraid this game could get ugly.

2-0 after two. OU has put a runner on in each inning, but couldn't get her around.
