Mary Nutter Classic

Third starts well: Romero double, Arnold single to shallow center.
Two-run single by Erin Miller cuts it to 4-2.
Wodach walks.
Aviu pops out on a bunt attempt
Knighten hits a three run home run, OU leads 5-4. Fielder caught it but lost it as she tumbled over the fence, like what happened to Aviu yesterday except that she didn't drop it. Long one to right center.
Self lines to center.
Didn't hear the last out. 5-4 after four.

Three up, three down for Stevens in the fourth, two by strikeout.

Knighten is starting out her career as though she wanted to be a slugger. I think that is three for her.

Leadoff home run by Nicole Pendley that one-hopped the baseball field.

OU 6-4 after 4.

Shay Knighten does it again, home run to tie at 7-7, her second of the day. Long to left center. That is #4.
OU leaves the bases loaded. 7-7 after five.

A two run single by Sierra Romero is followed by a three-run home run, by Susalia 12-7. That's all for Stevens. Jayden Chestnut warming up.

We had two rather weak defensive plays by Arnold and Romero that loaded the bases to set the table.

Chestnut is greeted by a single and a home run.

Eleven batters for Michigan in the sixth, 14-7.

16-9 in the seventh. Slight misplays have helped Michigan score the last nine runs.

We did allow ten. When you allow that many runs, usually there are some walks, hit batters, errors, or misplays. Today, I don't think we were charged with an error. But, there were several misplays in the field that helped generate those last nine runs. Without them, we might have gotten out of the innings. Our defense is young. But, Pendley seems more indecisive this year.

I thought pitching would be our strong point early this year and would carry us until hitting youth came around. I thought Kelsey did well considering #2 team and national runner-ups last year. I didn't get to hear the inning with the 7 runs scored by Mich. But the freshmen relievers didn't appear too strong. This may be a rebuilding year.

Kelsey is starting second game. Have they mentioned anything wrong with Paige? I don't think she pitched against Mich, did she?

Kelsey already being pulled in 1st. :( Walked 3 and wild pitch resulted in run already. Chestnut in to pitch. Chris Plank said Paige is not available but didn't say why.

OU won 3=2 behind Chestnut. First loss of the year for #20 Fresno State.

Plank is a foul ball in the high weeds. Very aggravating to listen to.
Random thoughts: We seem to have trouble throwing strikes consistently. First pitch is a ball about 70% of the time. Puts us behind the hitter. Finney is good in stretches but I think will be a killer with experience. We leave too many hitters on base. Need clutch hitting. Coach should be telling the hitters to just get the bat on the ball-dont just stand there without swinging at strikes. Good job by Chestnut. A few mental errors that demonstrate that at this level they really cost you.

Down 4-0 after the first. Kelsey started and replaced by Jayden already. Still haven't heard what happened to Paige.

We came back and scored six in the top of the second: home runs by Wodach and Romero, and a double by Pendley accounted for five of the six runs.
