Wow.
Police served an emergency protective order against an Oklahoma State University basketball player after another OSU student accused him of rape, according to the student’s sworn statement.
Matt Pilgrim, 22, was served the order Monday afternoon after another Oklahoma State student told police that Pilgrim raped her in her Smith Hall apartment in the North Monroe area on April 12.
The Daily O’Collegian’s policy is not to print the name of alleged victims or rape victims in coverage of sexual assault.
OSU Director Of Communications Gary Shutt confirmed that OSU police are investigating the situation. Shutt declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.
According to the order, which the Daily O’Collegian obtained from the Payne County Courthouse, the woman stated Pilgrim raped her April 12 in her OSU apartment. Their next contact was May 2, outside of her Smith apartment, where she said Pilgrim harassed her.
Both parties are set to appear at 10 a.m. May 20, at the Payne County Courthouse for a hearing.
OSU Sports Information Director Mike Noteware declined to comment.
Pilgrim averaged 8.2 points per game and 6.7 rebounds for the Cowboys in his first year after transferring from the University of Kentucky.

Ugly stuff, hope it's not true for both of their sakes. Does seem odd that if it happened April 12th, she'd wait nearly a month before going to the police about it.

But, once again a guy shouldn't ever put himself in a position like that.

Seriously?

Pretty much all research indicates a major percentage of rape cases (well over half) are NEVER reported. A one month delay is not strange at all and should in no way cast doubt on the victim's claims.

I'm going to withhold judgment on this one. The guy hasn't been charged with anything as of yet.

ya its actually down right normal for about a months time to elapse

But, WHY wait a month? It sure seems like that it would be an immediate response to tell the authorities.

Are you a women who has been raped? Maybe then you would understand the shame and humiliation felt by women who have had this terrible experience.

I have no idea if Pilgrim is guilty of a crime and at this very early point OSU should not take any actions...but your comments show extreme ignorance of this subject.

i'm going take a wild stab and say it's probably the amount of time when the woman feels comfortable in finally confiding with someone about what happened, and that that person begs/pleads with her to tell the authorities.

No, I'm obviously not. I am ignorant of what a woman would do in this situation. Which is why I asked.

I have no idea why they wait. But the fact is, they do.

Are internet message boards not a proper forum for discussions?

Sure they are but they are not homogenous.

I would not ask a question concerning OU basketball on the Rape & Sexual Abuse Survivor Message Board. I also wouldn't ask on this board about the proper way to braise asparagus, I would ask on a cooking forum.

who knows? women are a mystery. the best thing to do is not rape them.

It's not as if I was asking for a detailed psychological profile of traumatized women, completely out of context in the 'Calipari to the Bulls' thread. I was asking about it in the scope of a thread titled "Matt Pilgrim accused of rape." Is it frowned upon for at thread to flow towards another topic?

Should there ever be an OU basketball player with an interest in asparagus (which I hope happens, because that would be awesome) and the DOK (Jenni Carlson, obviously) does a story about him and how he's a great asparagus cook, people might naturally start talking about asparagus in that same thread.

My guess is that it takes about that amount of time to go from being humiliated and frightened to being angry. The anger has to overcome the fear.
