Matt Pilgrim accused of rape - OSU student paper

Lets get back to topic. I hope the allegations are not true. There is nothing that come from this that is good. It is suspicious that this is coming out a month later, but who are we to judge when the right time is. It is our justice system to see people as innocent until proven guilty, so I will take that approach.

If the rumors are proven false, this will haunt Matt for a long time. I hope this is resolved quickly and will serve the interests of each party. There is nothing good that can come from this.

My guess is that it takes about that amount of time to go from being humiliated and frightened to being angry. The anger has to overcome the fear.

That makes sense. I mean I wasn't trying to be, "She's lying, she waited too long to press charges!!!", I just thought it sounded peculiar after reading the blurb. If that's a consistent theme in this type of thing, then shame on me for not knowing about it.

You didn't ask anything in your first post.

Someone responded to an observation/statement I made in the first post, and then I asked the question in my second one.

I'm not sure what you're bringing up.

I don't understand the part of the article about "another student accused him of rape." But most of you are missing the main point of the article. According to the article, she did not file a criminal complaint of rape. She filed for a protective order because he raped her on April 12 and then when he saw her on May 2 he harassed her. She is asking the court to order him to stay away from her and to make it a crime for him to get within a certain distance of her. At this point her accusation of rape is justification for the protective order.

While accusations of rape can be made long after the event, conviction becomes more difficult without the evidence usually obtained within the first few hours of the assault. But the main thing to come out of the next hearing will be whether or not she gets the protective order.

If there's any legs to this he needs to be off the team. I don't care how good a player he is.

Wouldn't it make more sense for that player who likes asparagus to go to OSU since it is an agricultural school?

Also just a guess for why there was a wait.
Lets assume this is true (I hope it isn't just a bad deal all around).
She was raped in April, didn't want to talk about it because as mentioned before quite a bit of women do wait or never do.
Well on May 2nd, Pilgrim harasses or whatever, a friend of hers is a witness. She talks to her friend about the harassment. During the talk, she tells her friend about the rape. Then over the course of two days the friend convinces her to go the authorities.
Just throwing a guess out there.

osu is thuggish no matter who is runnin' the show.

who knows? women are a mystery. the best thing to do is not rape them.

:ez-laugh: This is the post of the thread, as far as I'm concerned.

Alright, carry on, nothing to see here.

That was my thoughts, Had he not harassed her we might not have ever heard about it

Especially given the fact that he was suspended earlier in the season.

He was suspended for not making a curfew. It's not like he has been accussed of rape before. If Matt is found guilty, then he should be off the team. The problem is we may never know what really happened. The incedent happened a so long ago it would be a he said she said type of thing. If he is the least bit guilty then I want him gone, but it would be an injustice to kick an inocent player off the team. I guess thats why head coaches make the big bucks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he out partying all night in Austin, and didn't come back to the hotel until early in the morning when one of the coaches was up? If that is the case, "not making curfew" doesn't tell the entire story.

That's why I said if there's enough smoke in this situation (emphasis on "if"), then he should be off the team since this incident and the Austin incident show he is too much of a head case.

I don't really care about the first incident, but if the coaches think he is in anyway guilty of rape then he should be gone. Unless there is physical evidence I don't see how the courts will be able to prove much. That being said if the coaches find out that he did it, then he should get a shoe up the butt on his way out. Rape is not something that should be overlooked.

FIFY

Thinking there are bigger issues here than being "off the team" don't you?
Rape is one of the harder things to actually prove and prosecute because you need the woman raped to testify and then it becomes a he said/she said thing. If I'm Ford I kick the guy off the team ASAP.

Fair enough, I see what you mean now.

We can't all be standout student athletes like TMG, Tiny, and the two Dillard's twins. :)

TMG and Tiny, maybe they are not great students, but they did nothing worse than miss a few practices and they were punished accordingly. They did nothing to shame the program off the court.

Pledge and Fitz made terrible mistakes. They did shame the university, team, coach, and most importantly themselves with their foolish actions. Let's just get this 1 thing straight, though. Misdemeanor theft is not even in the same stratosphere as any kind of rape, homie. Theft (in most cases) is dealing with a non-living object. I may be in the minority, but I put rape almost equal with murder and both are unforgivable. Pledge and Fitz by all accounts have been solid student athletes. They are not a menace to the campus like Pilgrim apparently is.

Are you really trying to compare misdemeanor theft at Dillard's to rape? Really?

No doubt, point the finger at someone else; unfortunately, it is inevitable that someone at OU will have a problem and some goof will point the finger at oSu athlete's. If the rape deal at Duke or the murder in Virginia should teach us anything, at any given time EVERY school runs a risk of having their athletes being accused of or doing stupid things. Time for fans to realize that and move on.
