MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

I'm gonna wait a little bit longer to have a meltdown about this.

what a f'king joke.

If he can't get these two guys, I don't see moser getting anyone worth a $hit...but who knows.

Ah well...
softball doing well, baseball actually doing well, tennis ranked, women's gymnastics going to the NC this weekend....but we all know those sports don't mean jack...LOL

Good news is Joe C has a year to narrow down the short list of coaches he calls next April.
Given his track record of bball hires, what makes you think he’ll get it right this time?

Added to that, our small NIL, pathetic fan support, and Donors that only care about football, that really narrows the pool to guys like Porter Moser.

Calm down ma’am

OU should just shutter the program and put the money towards football. The 209 people who care about basketball enough to support it consistently would get over it.

Sheesh, so many overreactions, first positive and then negative. Ride it out, see what happens--nothing is assured till the new guys, whomever they might be, are enrolled and on campus (and even then, it's not guaranteed beyond a year), so it's best to not get excited prematurely. I read this thread, but mostly I skim it, because none of it--absolutely none of it--matters until players make their decisions and commit. Until then it's all rumors and hearsay, smoke and mirrors.

As for shutting down the program (good grief), things won't stay this way. They'll settle down eventually, one way or the other. Just like the Old West, the current "Wild West" will get settled. Rich guys will tire of shelling out big bucks, just to see the star they threw all that dough at leave a year later, looking for a bigger payout. Kids will see that it often doesn't work out for the guys who transfer every year (and it won't--they'll make some dough, but they won't establish the contacts that will serve them later in life and they won't maximize their talents either).

Don't get me wrong--I hate the way things are now. But it won't last. I don't have a crystal ball and can't say exactly what changes are coming but they're coming. The current system is simply untenable. Hopefully, OU will be well situated for what's next. But calling for the program to be shuttered? That's silly.

I personally didn’t literally mean shut the program in, rather a hyperbolic (over)reaction to OU’s inability to adapt to the current system. I give the admin a pass for the first year or so of NIL with the state laws and general uncertainty, but at this point ou should be using its athletic department funds to get some of these deals done in football and to lesser extent basketball. NCAA won’t do anything.

The overreaction is ridiculous here, if Sooners get a good player, great! If not, wish him luck and move on

Depends on what overreaction you mean?

The portal opened mid-March, it closes May 1. We are a 2/3 of the way through the open window, need to replace 5 players. (still can sign after, but no new players will be in - that aren't grad transfers)

-We have only had 3 visits (that we know of)
-Barely contacted any bigs
-Texas is getting guys in DROVES
-Our two biggest targets are not guaranteed anymore with bigger players (NIL packages/teams) coming in
-Coaching staff seems to lack direction in contacts and outreach (or too much trust in Freshman/Cooper/Cole/Luke)
-NIL is meh, clearly, and we need to revamp everything, need a GM badly
-Lost Overton to Tech

Those are all verifiable, for the most part.

So with 2 weeks left for athletes to enter, and our 1 visit per week average, it is not feeling that great right now. Mostly very frustrated.

But hey, things can change?

(Especially with Bryce Pope just visiting around -- joking -- sort of)
