MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

It sure feels like OU has started "moving" forward with people I don't think we'd be interested in if Pedulla was coming. That makes me think OU isn't very sure either.

Doesn't mean Pedulla isn't coming.
Also doesn't mean our coach might not be making the same roster mistakes he's been making, and recruiting guys that probably shouldn't be playing together.

You the man!

Things I like and don't like on each:

Donaldson
like
--Two years left.
--FG3% over 38.
--eFG% over 53.
--BPM of 5.6 (not listed). 3.2 or over is really good.
--Evan Miya BPR of 5.72 (not listed). 2.4 or over is really good.
don't like
--Alabama and Michigan after him so we probably won't get him.
--Needs to increase scoring output, but he was only a Sophomore on a deep team.

Barnes
like
--FG3% over 38.
--WS over 3.2.
--BPM of 3.3
don't like
--SoS not good.
--Assists under 3.0.

Elvis
--only things I somewhat like are Ast of 3.5, FG3% of 37, and BPR of 2.77. The rest is crap.

Edwards
like
--Two years left.
--Can score.
--WS of 4.1.
--BPM of 3.9.
don't like
--FG3% of 35.0.
--eFG% of 50.8.
--Ast of 1.4 (he likes to shoot too much apparently).

McBride
like
--Can score.
--FG3% over 38.
--eFG% of 54.3 over his career at Oral Roberts.
--Ast of 3.1 (he can score and share the ball).
--WS of 4.0.
--PER of 20.
don't like
--Sos is bad.
--BPM of .8 is bad.
--BPR of .19 is bad.

I agree with your take on most of this but that 35% from 3 is solid.....especially considering the 3 pt line is a foot further back than HS (which a lot of people don't take into account). I wouldn't say 35% is ELITE but it is good...especially if it is on 4-5 threes per game.

Just depends I mean you know you need 3 guards, a big guys and a SF. So of the guys maybe elvis is a hopeful backup PG? Donaldson as a guy to run next to pedulla? then scott at the 3? idk trying to find some hope until its all gone and we are on to fotball.

The only good thing about that list is that I'll get my wish and Moser will be gone.

We're going to regret not getting a head start this year.

I am starting to think the quickest way for moser to be gone would be for him to make the tournament and he gets an offer elsewhere. I’m not convinced ou will pay his $3mm buyout next year (assuming we have an 18-19 win season again). To say the admin, fans, donors do not care about basketball is an understatement.

I agree 35% is solid. I just feel like anything over 38% is elite or close to it.

OU ain’t getting 18 or 19 wins next year.

OU ain’t getting 18 or 19 wins next year.
Too early to tell.
At this time last year, nobody thought we would have got 20 wins this year.
Things can change quickly and it is pretty imprudent to make predictions when the roster isn't set

I would agree that 35% isn't elite....but it's approaching it. I'd agree that 38% and up is definitely elite.

I had an all-american that shot about 35-36% and hit almost 110 threes his junior year. He was about as good of a shooter as you'd find at our level.....but he would never be a D1 guy....he was too small.

This is a great point. Let’s look at the two programs.

OU: complete apathy and very little investment into the program. Some of the lowest NIL in the country and little admin support. Donors that simply don’t care about basketball.

Baylor: lots of money and willing to invest in the program. The reason Baylor went from loser to winner is simple. They appointed strong leadership across the AD with a vision of winning and investment. The donors invest the money and they get the coaches and the players they want.

Can OU become a great basketball program? Yes.
Could OU win a national title in basketball? Yes.
Will any of this happen? NO. HELL NO.

WHY? Investment in the program. OU is simply not invested in basketball. It’s been that way for a long time but with the changing environment and NIL plus free transfers, it has killed programs like OU. We can no longer get by with the neglect from the donors and admin. Either they step up or this program is dead. It’s that simple.
Ask a Baylor fan during their 38-year drought if they could become a great basketball program and win a national title, and the answer would have been an all-caps no. Ask during their 20-year drought and it likely would have been the same.

There's nothing about our current situation that can't change for the better.

We'll have SEC money next year.

Porter was almost gone this year. The smoke around DePaul was real. It was a landing spot if Joe C was going to fire or force Moser out. I'm sure Moser was told he had to make the Tournament. Then we were in a position where it looked like we were probably in, or at the very least, we were on the bubble. I think Joe C and Moser came to an agreement that he was safe, but I can't see any way we'd keep him if we missed the Dance next year.

In other news (not worthy of a new thread), we have scheduled a game against Central Arkansas. They finished 148 in the NET. If they are around that next season, that's a big improvement on last season, provided it isn't an outlier in another schedule with tons of awful teams. The Battle 4 Atlantis will likely give us three good to very good opponents, but I pray that Moser doesn't simply rely on that tourney and think that he can schedule a bunch of empty wins the rest of the way.

Not to be a Debby Downer but that was Arkansas St. Central Arkansas was bottom 20 in Net (344).
