MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

I think the idea that Moser has to have a good 3 point shooter at the 5 is a bit overblown. Krutwig didn’t shoot them at all. But he was effective on the outside because he was a good facilitator (and those Loyola teams had more willing cutters than we have had).

Absolutely agree, but if you can get this lineup I think OU will be competitive:
1st/2nd best player
1st/2nd best player

I said it's a start, but stated you need at least 2 real difference makers.
 
Looking at Godfrey's film he looks like a Hugley style game.....but more athletic. I'd take that. I didn't hate Hugley's game....he was just out of shape. He would have been way better if he would have been in the 240-250 range.

Godfrey has good feet and touch around the hoop. He isn't Moore-athletic but he is plenty athletic enough. He and Moore could co-exist on the floor.
 
As much as I've shitposted through it and have been an a**, if they can just find one "star"....like Pedulla, they should be able to at least make it back to the bubble teams conversation. With a little luck, etc, maybe 22 ish wins. It's crazy early though, obviously.

It’s not great and I’m reaching here, but to inject some of the small bit of hopium I’ve got into the conversation…

Here are the individual PPG on Moser’s final 4 & sweet 16 teams at Loyola-Chicago for guys that played basically every game and averaged 10+ minutes:

Now I get it, this is a different conference and a different level of opposition. But his best teams have not included a bunch of high volume scorers.

It’s obviously difficult to make this work when you’re not dealing with building a program in a traditional way but maybe we don’t have the option of multiple high volume scorers, and finding a bunch of solid guys that can fit is the best hope.

Can you find 2-3 SEC 13-17 ppg scorers with our budget? Idk, maybe. Maybe not. But maybe it’s easier to find a bunch of guys to hang around the high single/low double digits and get them all to play unselfish & equal opportunity basketball. That’s what he’s won biggest with to this point anyway.

What they absolutely need to make that work are multiple guys who can function as ball screen decision makers and multiple shooters, and they all need to be capable on the defensive end. Having a big that can score & pass in Krutwig was also a big part of those teams (particularly the sweet 16 team), but you can replace some of that if you’re a bit more dynamic at the guard spot and if you’re athletic enough to make them pay or stay at home on a lob threat.

How many guys can realistically fall into that 8-9?

You need a couple straws to stir it. Who can I run my actions through? I think the complementary pieces are nice. Can you convince Pedulla that you’ve got enough? Elvis can start your offense some (which is where I see a huge difference between him and Darthard as I’ve seen that comp) but he’s not a full time PG in this league. Gotta go convince a guy or two that can create.
