MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Goodine-Jones-Elvis + a legit PG and I’ll say we have, at worst, broken even in the portal.

If we get a decent big, we’re ahead of last year imo.
Maybe. Would depend on the PG (obviously). I'd be willing to say with that group, AT BEST we probably broke even. Not sure we have a guy like Soares in that group.

Also, the bad thing about adding "those" guys is that we'd lose the following to graduation next year:
Godwin
Moore
Goodine
Jones
Elvis

Talk about really starting over the following year. Not saying at this point we shouldn't take seniors, we don't have that luxury. Just pointing out the downside of adding these particular guys. And if the PG or other big we get is also a senior, just add them to the list.

Realistically, 8/10 programs start over most seasons.

Better to have it be from graduation so you know it’s coming rather than guessing who might portal.

If our guards shoot better than 25%, that changes the equation.

Godwin brought something positive every night. The same cannot be said for McCollum, Uzan, Oweh, etc.
OR if Sam had skills that opened up the court our guards could’ve taken advantage for more scoring lanes or more open 3 pt shots. If Sam is our starter and predominant 5 we will finish in the bottom 3rd of the SEC. Even Groves brought more to the table than Sam. He could shoot 3’s ever now and then.

No, he didn’t. Two pts and four boards. Four and four. Four and four. Four and four. Six and three. Six and three. Those are six of his last nine games. He played hard every night but it’s flat wrong to say that he always brought something tangible to the game every night. Energy/effort and a few points and rebounds are fine for a backup big playing 12-15 minutes. If that’s what you’re getting from a starter, you don’t have a good enough roster.

I mean if OU brought in 4-5 underclassmen they could all be leaving next year as well. Take the players that give you the best chance for next year.

Im fine with recruiting over/past Godwin, but it doesn’t seem very likely given what big guys cost.

So, our best option is to find guards that can hit the broadside of a barn.

I’m not going to weight down the thread with this debate, but I’ll just say he was an above average offensive rebounder.

Our guard mostly sucked in Big 12 play.

Wow somehow OSU got Wesley Yates III to visit this past weekend. Former top 50 player. Maybe OSU runs out of NIL money before Garrisons makes a decision.

Sending the positive vibes.
