MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

We simply cannot have Godwin as a starter next year if we want to make the dance. I’m confident the coaching staff understands this too. Whether they can buy a better big man is TBD.
I don’t agree, we just need a backup that is equal to Godwin instead of it being a situation where we fall off a cliff. When Hughley was healthy for example, we played much better because there wasn’t a let down on the second unit.

How about a starter that’s better than Sam and he’s the backup?

Looks as though Godwin is the man to blame currently (it's always someone).

He and Moore are the two known quantities on the team. If we can get a better center, great, but for now my primary concern is virtually every other position on the team and two or three spots on the bench.

It absolutely feels like we have gone from last year’s focus of adding athleticism to this year’s focus on shooting. Of course, good teams have both, and unless something changes with our final two signings, we will be significantly downgrading our athletic ability. Like others have said, it feels like four years in, he is still all over the place when it comes to what he thinks is required to win at the power conference level.
Are you sure we've downgraded our athletic ability? Moore is still there, Cooper will play. Jones is a pretty vertical athlete and Elvis is athletic in a way nobody was last year - he's shifty and has a stop and go game. I agree overall, we may be a little less athletic, but still athletic enough to compete at the high P5 level. The shooting has improved, but now is there enough playmaking and verticality from the 5 position? Those are the two main needs to fill now. If you land Garrison or Onyenso, then you can afford to be a little less athletic everywhere else.

Lately, I can't check this site while I'm working because HS kids, therapy sessions, etc... I get home and I'm usually 3-5 pages behind, so I sit down and catch up all at once. I just want to thank all of the guys who are sharing updates, recruiting info, new targets, etc. It makes it more exciting during the offseason. I'm not sure how anyone could complain about 3-6 credible guys we have here sharing info and making credible graphics, charts, etc... THANK YOU GUYS!!!

Godwin is a liability vs any athletic team with size. Godwin did the majority of his work vs smaller teams in the noncon. Thinking Center isn't a problem is strange to me.

To be fair, it’s not just Sam we should be worried about. We also can’t have Elvis as a starter and expect to go dancing imo. Got to find an actual PG and hope Kaden makes a real jump if we want to make it.

Ideally the lineup would be
Bucket Getter PG
Jones
Cooper
Jalon
Athletic Center

Elvis
Goodine
Cole
Sam

I have been a staunch "Godwin is a G5 starter all day" person and will stay that way. Our 5 depth has worried me the last 2 years. I'm happy we have him, not a knock, just my opinion on his ceiling.

I get everyone wanting Elvis to be a bench guy, but darnit if he didn't start 33 of 33 games for a team that outperformed OU last year.

Just sayin'

+1 … I don’t remember when the site(s) was this active. It’s great, and the best place on the net for OU bball.

Oh i absolutely understand where you’re coming from as well. It just seems like we’re on a crash course for another bubble season if he’s our PG.

Oh no.

Per Scoop's basketball & softball reporter, and his inside info, Elvis is now seen as the starting PG. My worst fear is coming to fruition (for now).

back to focusing on who the next head coach will be...unless the PG situation changes. Am I kidding? Yes but also no.

Would this be fair?

It's obviously very early and a lot is still TBD.

SEC PGs:

Alabama:
Mark Sears or Aden Holloway....depends on Sears staying in the draft.
Advantage: Bama

Arkansas: Boogie Fland or TBD transfer.
Advantage: Too early to tell but it'll likely be Arkansas. Fland's talent>>>>>>>Elvis

Auburn: JP Pegues
Advantage: Auburn

Florida: Walter Clayton Jr....in draft but should be back
Advantage: Florida

Georgia: Silas Demary Jr
Advantage: UGA

Kentucky: Right now the thought is Lamont Butler unless they can land a better PG/combo.
Advantage: UK, but eh, similar to what OU's trying to do with Elvis (potentially). Not a huge fan of Butler as a PG.

Ole Miss: Sean Pedulla
Advantage: Ole Miss

South Carolina: They're still searching for a starter
Advantage: TBD

Tennessee: Zakai Ziegler
Advantage: Tennessee

Texas: Jordan Pope
Advantage: Texas

Texas A&M: Wade Taylor
Advantage: A&M

Vanderbilt: Grant Huffman
Advantage: Close call IMO.

If he can defend and we get a scorer at the 3 (Robinson?) then it’s whatever.

Wow. Well, it’s a good thing we just don’t play 1 v 1 with PGs to decide the outcome
Of the games in the SEC. How many of those guys listed is Los better then?
