MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Some members on the UK discord saying their budget is somewhere between 7m-8m.

If OU is close-ish to 2-2.5m, that is still pretty telling, no?

If you factor in a 10-deep (for easy calc purposes):

OU cost per player - 200-250k
UK cost per player - 700-800k

That is a PRETTY substantial difference.

(Yes, I know every player wont make the same and blah blah blah)

I would expect to be outbid by Kentucky. You can live with that.

But Ole Miss and Texas Tech…that’s when you know there’s a problem.

It doesn’t give Moser a pass, if anything it amplifies his lack of success, because you can’t miss the tourney thrice AND have a smallish NIL budget.

Kentucky’s desperation and need to fill a roster is amazingly greater than OU’s especially with the circumstances of their coaching change.

I’m glad the 3 Oklahoma kids are finally gone now so we can move onto targets that may actually be on the roster next year. I am bitter more than anything that these guys were brought up as wanting to return home and in the end it was ALL about the biggest bag. Oklahoma kids have a way of spitting on their home state like not many others do.

Only problem is he played the 4 for NM, I don't see him being able to stretch to the 5 full time.

So would a
Elvis
Transfer CG
Moore
Toppin
Godwin

Work? with Jones and Goodine off the bench and toppin small ball 5, with Northweather backup 5? idk honestly.
He played plenty of 5 too though at New Mexico, he just didn’t start there. I don’t think starting him at the 5 would be a problem. They just made sure that one of him or NJJ was on at all times to play the 5. That versatility as a good thing (especially if he keeps developing the 3pt shot - didn’t take a ton at basically 1 per game, but hit at a 34% clip). You don’t have to take him off the floor if Godwin’s on but you don’t have to start Godwin either.

Regardless, I don’t think we’ll ever find out if that will work but it’d be a good problem to have lol.

Taco John's have more money than us, so that made sense to be outbid.
Ole Miss over-paid for Pedulla.

It is what it is, we weren't going to blow our budget on one guy and potentially miss out on our prize (even though we did)

He literally said it was Kentucky an hour or 2 before it was announced.
Right after he said it was OU. I mean, anyone can get it right if they flip their predictions enough. Here, I will show you. I predict JIC signs with OU. Or he signs with another school.

I can see it, start him at the 5, bring Godwin in for Moore for a break, bring moore back in for toppin a break, then back to your opriginal 5 without having to play northweather many minutes at all unless foul trouble. Get a scoring combo guard who can fill it up, fine I'm in.

That logic only works so long.

There are a lot of guys in the portal, many of them are good, but the number is shrinking daily.

Gotta have some hits, and not on role players.

Just a quick mockup on potential salary comparisons from one school to the next. (knowing nothing about how each school values each spot)

Jesus Christ. He chose Kentucky because of money. He never even visited campus. You know what? This seems silly at this point. There's negative, and just being plain wrong and you're wrong here.
Jesus would never play at Kentucky. Hed be more like a TCU recruit or maybe out west with his hair, like a Saint Mary's, and he def wouldn't be about the money imo

Do we make the tournament with Jesus the year after we went to the FF? That is the question.

Good points.

UK has a much bigger budget than OU (duh) and they're much more desperate...as you stated. You could kind of say Pope went from double-A ball to starting for the Yankees. Immense pressure. And so far, his roster additions have been kind of meh by Kentucky standards. They needed another big fish and logic has me thinking they paid Garrison over a million (note: Texas @ $800K was the highest rumored offer pre-Arky/UK). Hey, good for them.

Non-butthurt take that will sound butthurt: fucc paying Garrison over $500-600K. He's not that good right now...the issue was more about OU's desperation (at C) than his talent. He has potential, sure, but potential isn't always manifested either. Garrison is very much a gamble.

I'm with you. Glad to be past the OKPreps kids. Happy to move on. I was hoping one, or more, would accept the challenge of putting OU on their backs but hey, that wasn't in their DNA(s). Time to find more kids who want to accept that challenge (in other words, cheaper players, lol).

The world has changed. Ole Miss/Texas Tech/Any Directional School can have an impact if they have one willing wealthy supporter.
