MBB Transfer Portal Thread: Moser Year 4

Just reviewing some of these numbers, and for the most part I get where your edge column comes from (I know you said it was subjective). However, I disagree with you on a few of those comparisons.

For instance, Lamont Butler has a comparable Ortg and a much better Drtg with a higher WS. At best, I'd think he and Elvis are tied. Zakai Ziegler's numbers across the board are better than Kobe's aside from 3PT% and FT% against much better comp, advantage Ziegler. Grant Huffman has clearly better numbers across the board aside from 3PT% and FT%, so I'm inclined to lean towards Huffman. Fland feels like a wash since we don't know what he'll be. That would leave us with Elvis rated over two other PGs in the league (Silas Demary Jr and Jacobi Wright).

Not to be gloomy, and I appreciate your effort to put this together, but I just disagree with those few mentioned above based on the numbers provided. This certainly paints a darker picture for the season than I'd like to be looking at. Still time and spots though, so we'll see how it plays out
How dare you, now I shall shame you with data!!!

Jk, I really appreciate the discourse. This is what this forum is about. Discussions, respectfully, on subjective matter and debate. I dig it.

I will follow up with your points, just briefly.

-Zeigler has solid numbers across the board. Much higher APG (which should be a PG focus), again, subjective and quick glance with my eyeballs.

You are probably correct and Ziegler is the proper choice here.

-Butler

Probably more of a tie as well

-Huffman

Probably correct as well, but still lean a tie bc the numbers are fairly close - Davidson and Dayton being the reason for a tie there.

ORtg and DRtg I am not sure how much value to put into, as I dont know what goes into the sports-reference datapoints for it? I am sure I could look it up, and probably will later. I have some brush to clear out, so yard work it is.

So, probably have him safely in the 9th to 13th best PG (14th depending on how well Fland plays)

Great work as usual!

As for DRtg, I think you have it backwards on the coloring. DRtg is an estimate of points allowed per 100 possessions, so the lower the better.

I have a spreadsheet tracking the portal entrants. I've only entered the "top" guys and may have missed some, but I currently have about 300 that I'm tracking. I track most of the categories you have, but also include BPM and WS/40, and Evan Miya BPR and Adj Team Eff Margin.

In case you care (probably don't but I'll list them anyway), the averages for each category of the approx. 300 portal entrants are as follows:

PPG 13.2
RPG 5.0 overall, 6.2 for PF/C
APG 2.2 overall, 3.4 for guards
FG3% 35.6
eFG% 53.7
TS% 57.1
WS 3.2
WS/40 .141
BPM 3.3
PER 19.2
Rtg (difference between ORtg and DRtg) 9.2
BPR 2.47
Adj Team Eff Margin 11.2

Taking Elvis' numbers into consideration compared to the average portal player/guard, he is above average in four categories (APG, FG3%, BPR, and Adj Team Eff Margin) and below average on the other nine categories. By my own amateur calculations on these categories, he comes in around 260 out of 300 portal entrants.

Wonderful work!

What database were/are you using for portal entry stats?

I'll look at DRtg and do a color shift adjustment later

Respectfully, you have zero clue. There has been plenty of talk that the two want to play together.
Lying? Goodness man. There has been plenty of talk of them wanting to stay home and play together at OU and that it hinges on Garrison. Pedulla wants to win.
Oh really? Let's see, Pedulla went to Ole Mississippi and Garrison went to Kentucky so you have zero clue and you lied about Pedulla and Garrison wanting to stay home and play together, you were wrong and you owe everyone an apology for being wrong

I am a FAN. I’m not an insider, never pretended to be an insider or anything of the sort.sure, I was wrong, I don’t owe anyone an apology, especially not you.

I was honestly just asking. I don't see it happening and I see a lot of people at a lot of different companies in a lot of different industries. So I just wanted to ask.

I could see it more in the tech world given how that industry operates.
I also think some of this is age/generation-based. I'm considered an old therapist in the mental health field. I also double as the Program Manager at my job. All of the "older" therapists, and case managers I started with have stuck around for a while. These young, fresh college graduates use Programs and agencies to build a quick resume with various experiences, etc. They stick around 6mos to a year, then shop themselves to the highest bidder. They feel no connection or loyalty to the agency, just seeking the easiest path to the most money. I'm almost 57 and my generation taught job longevity, loyalty, and hard work will pay off in due time. It doesn't always work out like that. I have let multiple offers go by in the last 8 years because I was taught not to chase money, and that other things are more important, etc...

I love my agency and job, but at 57, the money is now a big issue. I often think I have stayed too long at a place that claims to love me and value me but doesn't pay me what similar agencies will. Thankfully I don't rely on that 100%, and I manage my money well. My daughter works for the OKCPD, and I often tell her to be loyal to a certain extent but don't stay if you have a chance to better yourself. The young people I work with will bolt in an instant if the money presents itself.
