For people in the know what is his upside? Could he get minutes like Lattin is this year or is he a few years out after the redshirt?

I creeped on him the other day on Twitter and he said that gaining weight it's the hardest thing he's ever had to do.. for what it's worth..

Good creepin. That is really what he needs...

You're not sending him private messages with pictures of your uildong are you?

Putting on weight is easy. All he has to do is wait 20 years and develop a taste for beer & ribs. Piece of cake.

Right!?! I'm doing Hiit and intermittent fasting trying to cut more and he can't gain... Jamuni, check out those triple cheeseburgers at McDonald's bro!

he'll never gain muscle at Mcdonalds. Muscle is really hard to gain because you have to eat a lot of protein.

I'm not in the know. But, I do make practice from time to time. It looks like to me that he has a lot of upside.

It would be hard to guess as to how long it will take him to reach his potential. And it looks to me like minutes next season might be hard to come by for him. Spangler, Manyang, and Lattin will gobble up most of the post minutes.

Buford has been drilling with the bigs some. He isn't any kind of back to the basket player. But, he might peel off some #4 minutes if Kruger finds a matchup that smaller/ quicker would give the team the best chance of winning.

My guess is that Jumuni will get Bennett type minutes or better and do a really good job when he is in there.

Gary, I don't know if you'll recall it, but the day I attended practice, McNease had a string of four or five terrific plays in a row. I think we both commented on it.

I'm no coach -- furthest thing from it -- but I was impressed by him. I know he's inexperienced and needs to add some bulk, but I think he'll contribute.

Unless he proves to be one of those players who shows better in practice than in games, which is possible.

Are you agreeing with me or disagreeing?

Two years from significantly producing, some of which can be contributed to his frame, the rest to personnel. He is a springy kid, but he is going to have to be patient and wait his turn. Wouldn't be shocked if he was a future transfer as Kruger might recruit over him if things continue going as well as they have.

Neither, really. I think he may have a pretty big upside, but I can see where it might be a while for he gets there. I was impressed by his athleticism, though.

But really, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to player evaluation, so take anything I say with a large grain of salt.

Muscle is gained through lifting. If you ate 1k grams of pure protein a day but didn't lift you'd have nothing to show for it.

I like him a lot too. We agreed. Fancy that.

FWIW, I’ll add my opinion as I have been to a few practices. I have been impressed with the athleticism and skills of Jamuni McNeace. Like skyvue, I have seen McNeese make some terrific plays battling against the likes of Spangler, Thomas and Lattin. This includes blocked-shots against the other big men. I believe he has a very high ceiling, but the OU basketball program has the post depth lined up to allow him time to develop.

2015-16 Potential Post Rotation
> RS-Senior ........ Ryan Spangler (6-8, 235)
> Junior .............. Akolda Manyang (7-0, 240)
> Sophomore ...... Khadeem Lattin (6-9, 201)
> RS-Freshman .. Jamuni McNeace (6-10, 202)

2016-17 Potential Post Rotation
> Senior ................ Akolda Manyang
> Junior ................. Khadeem Lattin
> RS-Sophomore ... Jamuni McNeace
> Future Recruit .... ??????

As Gary points out in his post above, Dante Buford (6-7, 205) could add future options at the “4” position that will allow the OU coaches to adapt to different opponents.

I’ll add a comment I overheard from an assistant coach at a recent “Lon’s Luncheon” regarding the future of the program. To paraphrase, the coach said that with Lattin and McNeace, the Sooners would be “loaded” in the frontcourt in the coming years. The coaches seem to be very high on McNeace. From my observations at practice, McNeace appears to be a hard-working player with a fun-loving personality. He appears to be enjoying his time as a Sooner, as he is approaching his redshirt season with hard work and a great attitude. He also appears to be a player that is determined to get better. The coaches like him. His teammates like him. Time will tell.

hopefully lattin will make the "jump" next year (i think he will he gets better every day) and our post rotation will look something like 28 for spangler 24 for lattin and manyang 4 min +/- for Mcneese (basicly bennett's min this year)

giving him the experiece and confidence to be a bigger piece going forward ..

I'll repeat what I said on another thread about McNeace. (By the way, it's McNeace with a "C" not a "S.") :)

Jamuni is not that far removed from a "beginner" to the game of basketball. He didn't even make his high school team until his sophomore season. With that in mind, I think he has come a long way in the last three years. Yes, he's raw, but he seems to have a huge upside. If he continues to develop his game with the help of our coaching staff, I see no reason he couldn't contribute in a meaningful way by the time he is a junior, and it could easily be sooner.

Maybe that's why our coaches and the people who have seen him in practice are so high on him. Just sayin'...

..

of course he was 5'11 as a frosh and 6'3 to start his soph year ..

So, I lived in Texas my freshman year and I was kind of undersized. I was 5’11” I was an undersized post, so I didn’t make the team my freshman year. I ended up going to live with my mom for that summer after the school year ended and she ended up making me stay down there for my sophomore year. And from that time, from my freshman year to my sophomore year, I grew a few inches. I was 6’3 going into my sophomore year and about 6’6 coming out.

That's a heck of a growth spurt to add 11 inches since his freshman year of HS to his freshman year of college. I remember David Robinson was 6'5" when he started school at the Naval Academy.

McNeace has to still be adjusting to his sudden spurt. I just hope he's patient because he will eventually get his minutes.
