They just beat last year's tournament darlings Florida Gulf Coast to get into the tournament.

I remember at the time thinking it might be one of our tougher mid-major games. In the end, they didn't really challenge us. Still, it seems like they will be considered a quality win. Looks like they've come through and officially become our first win against a NCAA team.

That's Hoffman's team, right?

When you look at our OOC slate, there's a case one could make that they were our best OOC win (IMO it's between them & Tulsa, w/ a courtesy bow to A&M).

Glad to see him have success. He is a very good coach. He would have been a better choice than Capel. He may have been able to keep the recruiting class and would have gotten BG too.

Wasn't he named in the NCAA report for making a number of illegal calls? No way OU was going to hire an assistant that was part of that mess.

I can't remember. Seems like he was "pardoned" or whatever for it though, but that may be incorrect.

I think his part was connected to Austin Johnson and his father. I believe he was cleared bc he and Johnson's father are close friends and some of the calls were deemed personal and not violations. I might be wrong on this.

The illegal calls was a joke. OU self reported. The coaching staff took the position that an answer but immediate hang up wasn't a contact. The NCAA then let OU continue doing that and told compliance not to stop it. Sometime later the NCAA acted like OU was out of control. The real reason this became somewhat of an issue was Sampson wouldn't just apologize and say he was wrong.

I'm an OBU alum and really think a lot of Coach Hoffman. He led the Bison to the national title game my senior year.

I'm also an OBU alum. My mom went there when he played. I went to his basketball camps when I was in grade school. A really great guy. I'm also friends with his nephew. Nothing but good compliments towards Hoffman.

I took some classes at OBU as well and according to Websters that makes me an OBU alum (:woot ).

I remember when he coached at SNU as the womens basketball coach before going to OBU. He won an NC at SNU in womens before going to OBU and winning a mens NC. He's taken a circuitous route to D1 basketball and I always thought he was a great coach.

He is an offensive genius and his style of play reminds me a lot of Lon Krugers and Billy Tubbs. Too bad he didn't come to OU a few years earlier because he could have really helped the 02 and 03 teams offensively.

On top of being a great coach, he's an even better person. I'm very happy to see him having success.

I'm an OBU grad, as well. Love the Sooners, proud of my alma mater. Very proud to see Bob do well.

He's done it the hard way. Piedmont High School > part-time OBU assistant > SNU women > OBU men > UT-Pan American > OU assistant > minor league basketball > Mercer. He's taken jobs no one else would and has succeeded. I hope he can make some noise in the Tournament.

You're absolutely an OBU alum. :-)
