Missouri grants Oregon permission to talk with Mike Anderson

He takes the job and we end up with Pressey.

Yes... it's all coming together...

WTH is Mizzou doing?

Oregon needs to hire an AD just as quick, few coaches are going to sign up for a gig when they don't know who their boss is going to be.

I wonder if Oregon landed Anderson...would that work against us with our chances at the Terrances?? Seems like they might want to play for a coach like that....

Not that I feel our chances are great anyway..but we sure as heck don't need anymore competition for them!!!

I was just thinking about this too. I agree with you wholeheartedly. For all the positives that Oregon has to offer, that the AD job isn't filled is a pretty big downside IMO. AD's like to hire their own guys, and potential coaches like to know how athletic directors will run their department. It just brings a level of familiarity and trust that might not necessarily be there otherwise.

Losing Bzdelik and Anderson would be a big blow to the Big 12 north.

I was surprised to read the buyout for Anderson is only $500k. That is low. And it makes it more probable that this could get very interesting. Pressey likely goes with Anderson if he leaves. Anderson is like an uncle to Pressey. I assume the recruits can get out of their LOIs and have the option to go to Oregon or another school. I remember Calipari's guys having that option- Nolan Dennis for example could have gone to Kentucky although he had signed an LOI with Memphis.

One rumor out there is that Anderson has locked up Terrence Jones and Terrence Ross for Oregon. That is extremely hard to believe. But if he could get those two kids plus pull some of his current recruits over, it would make a lot more sense.

Ever heard of Phil Knight? Same as at oSu, Boone is your boss, not the AD [or even the president of the University in that particular case].

Even more what a coach wants...an AD (in this case, lack of) who can't control a large booster who thinks the university is his own playground.

Sounds awesome.

Ford to OSU isn't remotely the same scenario as Anderson's, Mike is a prominent coach at a respected basketball school. Ford was at UMASS waiting to get out of dodge ASAP.

Maybe Ford to Mizzou if Anderson leaves?

Completely unbelievable as it would be a major NCAA violation.

Not to mention unbelievable because Anderson was never recruiting them to Mizzou in the first place. Why would he recruit guys for Oregon who he hadn't been recruiting for Mizzou?

It also wouldn't make sense because up until a few days ago, he was busting his ass recruiting for Missouri (Pressey and Ratliffe).

MU did grant permission, but as I understand it, it's pretty common for an AD to grant that. If a guy wants to leave, he's going to leave, whether they grant him permission or not.

UO is offering $3.5 million. That would put Anderson among the top 2-3 highest paid coaches in the country. It would be stupid to NOT listen. That's double what he's making now, and at least a million more than MU can pay him, if not more. We can't afford to give him much of a raise (we already maxed out what the budget has to pay him right now after the Elite Eight run last year). Anderson supposedly rejected a $3 million offer already, though, and turned down more money than MU could pay him last year (both Georgia and Memphis outbid MU, but he stayed).

The last rumor I read was that Kilkenny was flying into St. Louis without Anderson... possibly to meet with Rick Majerus.

Sawyer- makes sense. I figured the rumor had no merit. I hope Anderson stays. I'm sure Missouri will find someone good if he leaves. But I really enjoy watching Mizzou's style and I think the league is stronger if Kansas State and Missouri give Kansas fits in the North. Isn't there a group of donors that can raise the money- Walton- to keep him? Or is it just a case that Missouri says $3.5 million is foolish money and we aren't going to lock into a financial obligation like that for a coach that has had some success but hasn't proven to be worth that type of financial commitment?
