Mizzou vs Illinois

If Samsung had left three weeks earlier, that's the style OU would be playing right now

I think Anderson would have been a slamdunk hire for Joe C. Still relatively inexpensive and played exciting basketball.

I think Anderson was too logical for Joe C. He was wanting a diamond in the rough so he could get someone on the cheap.

Couldn't Weber have called timeout after his team hit the 3 to get the lead to 1?

Dumb decision by the Illinois player to foul. Even dumber decision by the official to call it an intentional foul.

Possibly a bad call on the intentional foul, but Mizzou would still be up 4 with 40 seconds left (which doesn't guarantee a win... we were up 4 with 19 seconds to play vs. Georgetown).

Had the Illinois player gone for the ball, the call wouldn't have been made, but he had both hands in the lower back and shoved him. By the letter of the rule, that's probably an intentional foul. That doesn't mean it should've been called, but there's a reason plays like that are punished more severely. If Bowers had been a bit more off balance he could've hit the deck hard.

Also... Bruce Weber pissed all over his team's chances to win with that technical foul. It would've been a 5 point game with 25 seconds left, but he basically gave MU 2 extra points. The game wasn't really over until he did that.

Meh, although Anderson wins I really don't believe his style will ever lead them to FF or NC. It's a junk defense. Granted I would take it over what we have now.

It leads the country in steals every season.

The only team I have seen consistently beat it is Kansas.

FF or NC? How about just a tourney berth at this point? Right now, I'd be happy with an NIT bid.

Some OU fans just have unrealistic expectations for this program. I was not a Sampson hater because I recognized OU is not and never will be a program that will play for FF's and NC's every year. If we have good coaching, we could play for a FF or NC every 10-20 years and that's what we were doing and I was fine with that.

Sure, I didn't like losing in the first round of the NCAA, but that's far better than not playing in it (NCAA).

For any OU fan to expect us to hire a coach who is going to make us compete for FF's and NC's every year isn't living in reality. I'm sorry if that offends some people, but that's the truth.

I would have given my left testicle to have hired Anderson as coach.

Why doesn't anyone offer up their right testicle? My left testicle is personally offended by this practice and believes it is a form of discrimination.

Before my vasectomy, I'd have been more likely to give up my left, but considering I've had all types of pain in my right testicle since the vasectomy, I'd gladly give it up for certain things.

A consistently winning basketball program is one of those things at this point. :D

I'd give up my right one. That a way Joe C. could finally have a pair so he could do the right thing for the OU BB program.

Anderson took a relatively untalented Mizzou team full of castoffs and afterthoughts to the elite eight and held his own against a far better UConn team (knocking off a very talented Memphis team along the way in impressive fashion).

The style won arkansas a championship.
With far better talent. I agree the style can produce FF4's and NC's....I just think, and surprisingly, that Andersen hasn't really recruited that well to Mizzou. He's a good coach just needs to land some better talent.
Without the better talent the problem is when he runs up against the best, like you do in the FF4, his style of play lends to success for the other team if they are more talented. That is why you've seen KU have a field day with his teams. Trust me, I'd much rather see KU play Mizzou than Bucknell or Northern Iowa because of style of play.

OU, UNLV and Arkansas all went to the final four with essentially the same defense. UNLV and Arkansas both won with it. Had KU not had an incredible night shooting the ball, OU would have won with it too.
