He wouldn't take no for an answer from the guy he hired and wouldnt take yes for an answer from Terry Evans.

great

Joe wanted somebody he could hand the program over to and wouldn't have to worry if NCAA sanctions are coming down and whether the coach was doing his job.

From previous messages on this board, it sounds like Joe spent a lot of time counseling Capel on how to run a major college program and we still got into trouble with the NCAA. I'm sure he wants to be able to hand it off and not worry about it and with Lon that will be the case.

I like Terry Evans, but in all honesty, he and Kruger shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. When Terry takes 2 different programs to the elite 8 and 3 programs to the sweet 16, then you can compare him to Kruger.

Until then, you need to edit your post.

I love it. In an interesting twist. Arizona went after Sean Miller first 2 years ago and he said no at first. Then they went after Lon Kruger and the danced a bit but no deal got done.

Then Arizona went back to Sean Miller and refused to take no for an answer. Ended up paying $18 million for 7 years.

Sounds like OU went to Kruger first and he said no, then they danced with Buzz Williams for a few days but nothing got done. So they went back to Kruger and wouldn't take no for an answer. Sounds like $16 million for 7 years.

Where does this come from. From all indications, Buzz was our top candidate from day one, but we balked when we found out the buyout was so high. Of course, those who truly know aren't going to talk about it. Just curious where you got any info that "sounds" like Kruger was our first choice.

Yeah maybe Buzz was our first choice before his team made the tournament and then advanced to the sweet 16. Then he was going to cost over $2 million a year + a buyout.

If you're paying that kind of money you pay it to Lon Kruger.

Does anybody argue with that?

There is a reason Joe is called "The Godfather".
