Most underappreciated Sooners

by the fans during the past three coaches’ tenures.

Capel: Austin Big Balls Johnson

Sampson: Ebi Ere

Tubbs: Jeff Webster

with AJ probably being the most underappreciated of all-time...

What say you?

Huh... I would put those on my list of dissappointments relative to what i think they should have been able to do. So are they under appreciated or dissappointing? With Webster though, i just didn't like his game. I always thought he settled for turnaround jumpers instead of getting to the rim, but he a very successful career.

It's no question it's Austin Johnson. The clutch 3's he hit in Stillwater and Waco his senior year were ballsy, which earned him his ABBJ nickname.

I don't know if they count, since they weren't recruited by Tubbs. But point guards Raymond Whitley and Bo Overton helped build some tradition in the early Tubbs days. Whitley, I'll always say, would have been in the NBA had he not wrecked his knee during his first (redshirt) senior season in '80-81. Overton wasn't flashy but was still a nice player.

As for the Sampson era, no one was more underappreciated (pre-"phone-gate") than the Denim Man himself. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some so-called OU fans would have rooted for TCU or Lamar when Tubbs coached there - had we played them.

After reading the "best of" thread I am convinced that Alvan Adams is the most underappreciated Sooner of all-time.

A few I haven't seen mentioned:

Tubbs era- Bryan Sallier. IMO he gets overlooked a bit because the teams he was on weren't the most vintage of Tubbs squads.

Bryatt Vann had a very nice Sr. year once he got acclaimated to D-1 ball.

Sampson era- Tyrone Foster had a solid season in the one year he was in Norman. Bummer that things ended up the way they did w/ him.

I also never see Eric Martin mentioned in these type of threads, but he was a pretty solid player for OU, & a key member of that '99 S16 club.

Brent Price was pretty dang good his Jr. year here. You don't hear about him much even though he stuck around a few years coming off the bench in the NBA.

He holds an NBA record, too, if NBA.com has its facts straight.

Converted an NBA-record 13 consecutive three-pointers, over three games, from 1/15/96 to 1/19/96
