Mulkey Transferring

I thought Mulkey was going to be a star after her few big 12 games, but if you look at her high school numbers you could tell something wasn't right... some people had high expectations for her, maybe because she played on a USAB team, but if you paid attention you would see she didn't really play because she was in over her head. She's not a D1 talent player and doesn't have to foot speed to play in anything other then a slow half court offense... I expect her to head to a Mid major where she won't be asked to do so much... also she isn't strong enough to play with her back to the basket, at 6'9 she prefers to shoot and play in the high post, if used right that could have worked for her...

I think what most people said was that she had tremendous potential. As with all potential, it takes a lot of work for it to be realized. Buddy realized that and embraced the work. Not all players do.

You can spin this all you want, but it is not good for the program to be losing her. She was the biggest recruit in years and you have three more years for her to develop. I do not know what's going on the program, but Sherri need to look at all aspects of the program and make some changes quick.

I agree Sherri needs to look at the program, and it is her job to keep the players she recruits around. However, the reasons they left indicate that this didn't have much to do with anything "wrong" in the program by any means.

I was just trying to point out that Mulkey has a lot of potential....if she is put in a situation where she can realize that potential. Her potential if she is sent to the three point line every possession is much less than if she is put in a situation where she can be comfortable with her role. Leave her in the paint...on each end. Her shotblocking alone is something the we desperately need each year. With some experience, she could have been a force on defense.

Huge loss.....

In terms of optics for the program, this is really, really bad.

In terms of what I saw from her on the basketball court, not a loss at all. I saw her commit traveling violations this year that indicated she had zero understanding of how to play the game. Total incompetence.

Weird stuff going on right now in Mary Jane's Wing at Lloyd Noble.

You are ignoring Pellington.

I am also considering the fact that Tatum might now look at the OU program and think that is not the same program I committed to play for and I am going to open up my recruitment again.

Also Reese might see the departure of Mulkey as an opportunity and elevate OU on her list of schools or she might see Mulkey's departure as a red flag and lose all interest in the Sooner.

For certain the program is presently in a flux and none of that change appears to be for the better.

When have you ever looked at life and seen something moving for the better?

Generally a player of high ranking is a huge loss- but you have to consider the source. Rankings now a days has become a money hungry ego boosted process that really can't allow a true picture to be painted. When you deal with one man operations like olson (espn) etc you are just setting yourself up for a big disappointment I.e. Nancy Mulkey. The kids 6'9 you are gonna be top 25 for just standing there at 6'9". The writing was in the wall from high school performance to usab and all star games where she spent the majority of time "hurt" so why did OU take her - well it's a risk you take when you have 15 ships but the red flag was texas and Baylor not wanting her. This is why I believe in kids like ana tatum they were recruited hard by these schools but ana was set on OU from the start. Tatum took a bit longer but you add kids like shaina and possibly a reese to the mix you have the makings of something special. For those who want to try and make it seem a tatum or shaina can't both be productive you are doing your program a great injustice. Two top players like that will turn this program around together. Tatum has always been a pg shaina has ran both pg and sg she's more of an exposive penetrator that can be done from anywhere on the court. We need to look at kids as players and not positions.OU has three very good players on the horizon ana Shaina Tatum. I promise you sutton and Chasity won't have a problem finding plenty of pt. Just like McCarty and rodrigo last season That shouldn't be an issue when you have good kids that want to compete These kids chose OU to bring it back to prominent status. You lost a project that could blocks shots and imo a good player in dungee but if both left BecuAse it wasn't a good fit either due to talent level not taking care of business or chemistry it's irrelevant because no matter where you land all three of those are needed to perform. It's time to reload and make a run and move on.

No fair posting facts!

As I said before Sherri Coale better days are behind her, we all can blame the players, the fans, and baylor but it falls on SC. I'm not sure we've seen the end of this yet.

Unfortunate to say the least. Sad to say that I didn't see any coaching of post players this year. Mulkey always appeared happy. Same with Dungee. So there must be something else going on. Not sure. Kids these days expect a lot. Their immaturity is confounding and transferring doesn't always solve their issues. Still, Sherri needs to address it.

Some on here are telling us it is not as bad as it seems because of what James Hale said. When he says things not positive about Coale and/or the program, the same people say Hale only knows about football and minimizes what he says. You can not have it both ways.

When Hale does say something positive, it is unique. It is also unique when he contacts all sources with regards to the women's programs.

Regardless of why they are leaving.....the buck stops with the coach. She evaluated and recruited them. Each was going to have significant playing time next year. And they decide to leave. :facepalm

I think the only time I held a coach 100% responsible for a player leaving or choosing to go elsewhere was when Schnellenberger knocked the eldest Lockett's hat off.

When being recruited, players are on their best behavior and do their best to convince a coach they are exactly what is needed, mentally as well as physically. If coaches could read minds and predict the future all teams would have perfect rosters. Sherry couldn't predict what these two would do and Kruger couldn't predict what the point guard commitment who ended up at Oregon would do. It's an inexact science.

Schellie knocked off RW McQuarters hat not Lockett. Lockett weighed 145 as a senior and only K-State offered him, not even Tulsa. Mulkey is a stiff and not even a decent player. She could play against the non conference teams but not in Big 12

as a dad who's kids had the opportunity to play college sports, it's a dog eat dog world. Maybe some of you played...how long ago?

Daughter - walked on at a D1 Juco for basketball, coach welcomed her with open arms...let's say it didn't go well. Course I knew at the time she wouldn't play a second and would be used as motivation. (as a parent how do you tell your daughter she isn't good...it sucked) I did warn her of VERY limited PT if any and the motivation.

She then walked on to KU's row team. She made it...she was so excited. She was the last of the walk-on's but again coaches lauded her effort and team support. Unfortunately she chose to quit about March this spring, she had to choose between work and being on the "practice" team.

Son - played D1 Juco baseball for 2 teams in KS. Both times the coaches that recruited him left before he got there. Arm injury pushed the decision to stop playing.

Just saying...recruiting, playing, the work, all those things are a different tiger.

I'm a little frustrated at the direction of the women's team over the last few years...after being on the rise. Hopefully things can turn around.

It doesn't make Schnellie any less stupid.
