Anyone heard any updates on his ankle since practice resumed after Christmas? Dok is back and starting for KU today, so we really need Muni to be healthy by Wednesday;

Saw him at the mall today. Had a boot on and was using a scooter.

Not trying to start a rumor because I don't know crap but it makes me think stress fracture.

I think it is standard practice for guys to use walking boots and scooters for ankle sprains these days. I'm pretty sure Doke did and obviously Tua did leading up to the Orange Bowl. I do think Muni's sprain must have been a lot worse than originally thought because initially Lon only expected him to be out a few days.

Will not be back this week

Man that's bad news, not only for our chances of winning this week, but for his long term prognosis. If two weeks off wasn't enough to get him healthy, makes me think this could be something he'll deal with all season. By comparison, Doke got hurt two days after Muni and KU immediately called it a severe sprain. He missed 25 days and looked almost fully healthy Saturday. Wednesday will be exactly a month for Muni.

the big Russian better be ready to get some blows in...hack a shack.:facepalm

Blake Griffin would have been back at full speed three weeks ago.

Seriously, remember Blake’s unexpected return for the Baylor game in Waco following his knee surgery? Everyone thought he would be unavailable at least two more weeks. The arena went quiet when he stepped onto the floor. Baylor’s lead at the time was erased and OU won the game.

Maybe Muni will surprise the KU faithful by leading OU to a win Wednesday night. Now, wouldn’t that be special?

I guess they rushed him back too soon

Should’ve sent him to Tuscaloosa to have surgery

That was Capel's greatest coaching moment: not starting him and getting him off the bench that game. It was such a Jedi mind trick on Baylor.

Not having him tomorrow will make things very tough defensively because with Doke back, it'll be very difficult to handle KU since they will play two bigs. We can only hope to make life tough on Doke when he has to guard Freeman or Doo or whoever he is assigned to. Polla will certainly play some, but I'm sure we will play most of the game without a traditional five. That will pull Doke away from the basket and hopefully create some driving lanes.

He either reinjured it vs Northwestern or it was misdiagnosed

He won't be playing from what I hear. The diagnosis was correct and he hasn't reinjured himself. In the Northwestern game he felt it turn a little and he wasn't comfortable with it. He wasn't giving us much so they didn't play him again.
Some people are able to play through stuff better than others for sure. He has never been hurt before and it seems he is leery of going full speed until it feels totally normal. Hopefully that will be soon but don't look for them to play him until he is more assertive in his movements.

Fundamentally, I think our D is more sound without him.

Good luck in your recovery, Jamuni!

It's likely that you're right, IMO. Still, those shot-blocking abilities around the rim can come in awfully handy.

Muni "Wills Reed" tonight? Maybe, can we dream?

Ankle sprains are tougher to play through for guys who rely a lot on athletic ability. Obviously Muni fits the bill. It's a little easier for guys who are slower, below the rim players to still be effective with an ankle injury.
