The one year the two played together ('99-'00 season) was the one which brought OU back as a consistent top 25 team for the remainder of the Kelvin Sampson era. I can't help but think if Ryan Humphrey had stayed, that could have been another Final Four team. A starting 5 of Hump, Eduardo, Hollis, JR Raymond and Nolan Johnson would have been outstanding. We would have had Victor Avila, Renzi Stone, Kelley Newton and Tim Heskett coming off the bench (Jameel Heywood would not have been on the team)...and how can anyone forget Oleg Retzov (yes, I'm kidding).
Without Hump, we just didn't have enough talent in the paint to go far in the Dance. Purdue had an "average" center who ended up scoring a season-high in points that day. Regardless, I have lots of fond memories of that year's team - most notably the game against OSU in Stillwater on their senior night, and our trouncing of Missouri on OU's senior night. Lloyd Noble was rocking that night, and with about 2 minutes left in the game, 12,000 fans in unison all started chanting: "We want Oleg! We want Oleg!" Kelvin sent him in and the crowd went nuts...he even got off a couple of shots which would have sent the crowd into a frenzy had one gone in...again, lots of great memories of the 1999-2000 team.
