Napoleon Out At Stoolwater!

Holder telling his (Booger's) hand picked media about coaching search. SMH!

http://newsok.com/osu-basketball-holder-seeking-fit-with-next-coach/article/5486221

that is a weird article. test balloons for Doug? his wife says....

i think that would be a colossal mistake for them....but if things are that bad....better a coach that gets the alum donors on board when it all goes bad than a risky AD only hire....if you are the AD wanting to protect yourself. i saw that at Colorado where i used to work. former CU AD Mike Bohn hired a former Bill McCartney rah rah guy to get some moneys and appease the CU donors from the Coach Mac hey days....took the heat off him for the Dan Hawkins catastrophe....hired Jon Embree and CU football tanked like a rock. but, hey the donors wanted him too. hooray?

it's a dead end strategy but even a rat in a corner has to think a bit?

if i were an OK Aggie....i woulda thought giving Ford one more year was worth it in the checkbook and a shot at a 10 seed in the NCAA maybe....much better than Doug. OSU hoops is in a dangerous spot....like i say, CU football went from mediocre to a decade of crap with one "hooray for how we used to be" hire.

If they do, it will be like 1990-91 all over again (Sutton made OSU highly competitive from GO). He'll make Bedlam a great rivalry again. More importantly, another great coach will make the conference better. It's already a great "regular season conference", but upping the ante might make all the teams a bit more competitive in March.

Ford won't be leaving as much talent as Leonard Hamilton did.

They really seem to be an "inferiority complex" group up north! So obsessed with having an aggie for any coaching hire or admin hire.

How many ADs have you ever seen get a hand picked group of local media (I really think Booger gave some benefits to certain local media in the past to get favorable coverage) and explain his thoughts on hiring a coach??? Maybe, he felt the need to explain to aggie village WHY Dougie wouldn't be a good hire in Stoolwater and thus temper their disappointment beforehand???

I guess I'm missing when Marshall became a great coach. He's done well at a school that hadn't been relevant for decades but great?

I', a thousand times more concerned about Texas having Smart.

Underwood at SFA would be there best hire

I disagree. He's won a bunch of games and he did beat wv but have you seen the teams they have been beating the last three years? Beating a bunch of terrible mid/low major teams and only a couple of power conference teams might not be the guy they should take a risk on.

Their schedule is laughable the last 3 years. Not saying he's not a good coach bc he is but sfa played only 2 teams that made it into the tournament this season and they lost to both.

I see the possibilities of Gottlieb as head coach and they're no more risky than our Jeff Capel hire. Holder should feel a bit of panic given his role in this debacle and yes, making the base happy gives him a bigger window than hiring a quality no name coach. :eddie187_jpg_xs:

Jeff Capel had at least coached somewhere before Joe C hired him. He did take VCU to the tournament in his 2nd year and the NIT his 3rd year there. that is not a risky as picking someone that has never coached before.

That "bracketology" thing in the DOK today, in regard to the Poke State job, was kind of strange. I know the print guys think OU is inferior to OSU in men's basketball overall, so that tends to taint their judgment.

The way they act, you would think Phil Jackson is staring at his phone breathlessly awaiting an invitation to Stillwater lol.

Edit: And that Popovich is hoping that Phil turns them down.

Agreed.

That would make sense but if it was that simple there would never be a bad hire. Capel was more of a risk at OU than Hoiberg at ISU who had not been a head coach.
The better choice for osu would be a proven name coach but that costs a lot of money. Want to save money take on some risk but energize the fan base, Doug becomes an option..

I certainly supported Capel but my initial reaction to the hire was why so young and unproven. It didn't fit the situation.

Hoiberg had NBA front office experience which is worth more than being a talking head for cbs sports network. And I'm not saying Capel wasn't risky. It was very risky, but not as risky as gotlieb would be.

I agree Gottlieb is a risky move, though I do see the possibility that he can be very successful.. There are much safer choices that can bring back the program. I hope they make another bad choice.
