I'm really trying to wrap my head around this, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some years (I'm a fairly young guy), but I cannot remember the last time we had no players on our team with NBA Potential. Now, I say potential because obviously we haven't had many players get drafted/make it in the NBA; but I mean players that could have gone. Such as Hollis Price, Ace McGhee, etc.

The closest I can think of is the year after Hollis graduated, 2003-04. But we had Drew Lavender, who may have had a chance in the league if it wasn't for his height.

Am I overlooking some of our current players? Clark could develop, but he's got a long way to go.

This just stood out to me tonight because Texas is so loaded.

That game was about as fun as hanging out with Tim Tebow and Tyler Hansbrough at the same time. Geez...:facepalm

Clark definitely has potential, but it is going to take a while.

The light is going to go one for him, largest jump in improvement is between the first year and about midway through the second.

So if all those Sampson teams were full of NBA potential why did a grand total of one guy make it? Just bad luck?

If Osby is even close to the hype Capel has been saying I think he would have a chance.

He made up for it with coaching. Unfortunately Capel seems to lack a little in that dep't., especially on the defensive aspect.

I remember a time when OU and NBA and we made the tourney year after year after year.

I used "potential" loosely there. I tried to clarify that in the original post. I couldn't think of another word to use. I was referring to guys that had a chance to get drafted. For a crazy example, if there were three rounds of the NBA draft, then perhaps Ace or Hollis makes it in.

And I never said they were full of NBA potential. But generally we've always had at least one or two players with a good amount of talent; enough to at least get seriously looked at by scouts. I just don't see anyone on this team right now that could even sniff the league.

OP you make a good observation and for the most part I think people know what you meant. There are some dense posters here. There was that one Sampson team that had Nolan Johnson and our offense was for him to get a clear out and go one on one. That was a team that didn't appear to have a guy that was draftable.

hollis had almost 0 nba potential .. he was an undersized 2 guard with a average to below average handle

great college player not a NBA guy ..

Of course we don't have anyone this year that is NBA bound...but that doesn't mean that their isn't a guy on this roster that could eventually make the NBA. Who in the world would have thought that Ekpe Udoh as a freshman would have been a lottery pick?!?! or the kid from Butler?

But honesty...I could careless if we have NBA players on our roster...it didn't help us last year to have 3 guys who had NBA 'POTENTIAL.' We are in this mess b/c of bringing in 2 guys w/ NBA 'POTENTIAL.'

I agree with not just looking at NBA potential because that could just be measurables that get them drafted and not actual production. Build the best college team...of course you don't turn away an obvious talent like BG along the way. Really good college prospects that ARE RETAINED and develop going into their 3rd and 4th year would do some damage. Who knows...you may end up with your Eduardo types that end up being good enough for the league.

Nolan played with Hollis and Eduardo in 2000 and with Hollis in 2001. Both obviously had NBA potential, though because of Ed's height he had more NBA potential and has had a nice career. Hollis has done well for himself in Europe, though.

The 2004 team didn't have much NBA potential, IMO.

Instead of asking if OU has any nba potential on the team, what about making 1st or 2nd team all big 12 type players, does OU have any?

Clark will be 1st team all big 12 before he's done and Fitz will be honorable mention this year. I think Fitz has a chance to be 2nd team next year, but Osby if he's as advertised may hinder some of Fitz's scoring some and prevent it from happening. That would mean Osby has a chance to be 1st or 2nd team next year and maybe newcomer of the year or something.

I'm not sure about some of the younger players right now. But I think there's probably 3 right now; Neal, Pledger, and Clark. Fitz is too short and can't really jump at all, but he'll probably play overseas.

I agree plus a lot of Kelvin's guys were undersized. Hollis Price was a 6-0 shooting guard.

Ace McGhee and Taj Gray were 6-6 or 6-7.

Ernie Abercrombie gets shorter every year. But he was around 6-3 or 6-4 and one of the best rebounders Kelvin had. But he was really athletic.

Daryan Selvy was so athletic 6-5 or 6-6.

Corey Brewer was 6-2.

Even Eduardo was undersized at 6-7. But he' made it a nice career in the NBA.

Jabari Brown was taller and very athletic but he had no offensive game.

Ebi Ere probably has the skill set and size to make it in the NBA. I'm not sure if he could stick around though.
