NCAA investigating Texas' Kabongo for impermissible benefits
By Jeff Goodman | College Basketball Insider
The NCAA is investigating whether Texas sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo has accepted impermissible benefits while working out in Ohio this past summer, Texas spokesman Scott McConnell confirmed to CBSSports.com.
"We're aware of the situation," McConnell told CBSSports.com. "But no judgment has been rendered by the NCAA."
The 6-foot-1 Kabongo is a Canadian who averaged 9.6 points per game last season and was in Ohio working out with Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson -- a long-time friend and fellow Canadian who also played at Texas.
Kabongo was working out with New York-based trainer Jerry Powell -- who is, according to sources, close with agent Rich Paul, formerly of CAA. Paul, who represents LeBron James and Thompson, recently made the decision to leave CAA.
The NCAA, according to sources, is looking into whether Kabongo paid for his trip and stay. The organization has interviewed Kabongo on multiple occasions.
