NCAA Tournaent: The Elite Eight Thread

Oregon just kinda exposed Kansas issues inside.

Don't agree with that at all.

KU guards had open (ranging from wide open to pretty darn open) most of the night. Simply put, they just didn't knock their shots down. And then they let that affect their defense/energy level. That simple.

If they played tomorrow, I'd take KU.

You act like KU is the superb team....they just had an off night. Oregon has won 33 games this year for a reason. And don't forget, their best post player wasn't even on the court (Boucher). Oregon was (by far) the more athletic team of the two. If they played in a 5 or 7 game series...who would win?? I don't have any idea...but I promise you KU wouldn't beat them 4-1 in a 7 game series.

This KU team has had NO depth all year long...and it almost (and probably should have) bit them several times this year. They played WAY too many close games this year, and even had problems with the lower level teams in the Big 12. OU gave them everything they want in Lawrence for crying out loud!!!! We led most of that game...and were beating them by 9 at halftime in Norman. They only beat UT by 6 late in the season, TCU by 3, Tech by 1.

Did they win all these games...yes. But make no mistake, this wasn't a dominant KU team...and when I filled out my bracket, they were the first #1 seed that I had losing...I just had them losing to a different team. They depended way too much on graham and mason hitting 3's during these runs they would go on towards the end of games. They were very fortunate this year to have those 2 guys give them the lift they needed practically every game...because they sure the heck couldn't put away teams with the rest of the guys they had on the floor. They had NO depth on the frontline...and got away with playing Jackson at the 4, mainly due to the Big 12's lack of size.

This Oregon team will have more players play in the NBA than KU's will. I think Dorsey, Brooks, Bell and Boucher (even though he hasn't been playing) will all play in the NBA. From KU, Jackson is the only sure bet....and I personally don't think he's a great player by any means. He is ultra athletic...but I don't think he shoots it near well enough to warrant a top 3 draft pick....that's just me. Mason is too short and lacks quickness at the NBA level...although I will say there are worse back-up PG's currently on NBA rosters. Graham needs to come back and prove he can play PG at the next level. Lucas has no chance...just a solid college player, that's it.

I just was hesitant to pick Oregon w/o Boucher...but Bell has proven he can handle the role of rim protector. Can't imagine when those two were together....totally changes the way you can play against shot blockers like that!

I love OU and the Big 12....but I am not going to lose any sleep by KU losing. They just continue to under achieve in the tournament. For self to be either a #1 or #2 seed 10 of his 14 seasons..and only make 2 final fours is under achieving!! No other way to put it.

Congrats to coach Martin. I always liked him.

They did luck out on that big long pass that they didn't call an obvious travel

South Carolina is the fourth #7 seed to reach the Final-4, but the third in the past four seasons.

Good for the Gamecocks. They play with heart and fierce determination.

Great competitors.

Over/under on how many navels are puckered in Manhattan, Kansas right now?
Lon last year, then Altman, now Martin....:ez-laugh:

lol

I don't care about the NBA. I don't care about Boucher, b/c he wasn't playing, and I was talking about a specific game.

Oregon barely got by URI and Michgan.

Oregon's SOS was 35th in the country this year. That is why they got a 3 seed with only 5 losses on the year. They played next to nobody. Quick look, they were basically .500 with Boucher during the season in 6 games against NCAA Tourney teams in the PAC. I don't believe, outside of getting stomped by Baylor in the 2nd game of the season, they played another NCAA Tourney team OOC.

JMO, of course, but I think KU is the superior team, especially if Oregon is without Boucher. Which they were. Like I said, if KU isn't ice cold from three, they might win that game going away. But they were. It happens.

Edit: And I'm no KU lover. I don't hate them like some of you do, but I've also been one of Self's biggest critics over the years.

The Gamecocks are already my sentimental pick to win it all, mainly because I like Frank Martin and the tough defense his team's always play.

Despite the fact that he looks like a crazy man sometimes when he gets in his players' face, it's obvious they all love and respect him. OU could learn something about playing defense by watching South Carolina game tape.

I never root for Kentucky, so congrats to North Carolina!

My choices for the NC would be:

1) . South Carolina
2) . Gonzaga
3) . Oregon
4) . North Carolina.

I agree, MPS. UNC did not impress me all that much. Not so sure that the Zags don't win it all, with So Car a close second to win it all.

UNC & the Zags for the championship and it will be a great game between 2 excellent teams.

My picks were purely what I would like to see. :ez-laugh:

There were times today when UNC looked really good. I just think it would be great for someone brand new to win the NC.

All I've gotta say is that Payton Pritchard better marry that damn girlfriend.

Me, too! One bad season was well worth the wait!

I'm torn (though it's obviously a moot point). Would I rather have four years of PP than one (or maybe two) of TY? I might have to say yes, if given the option.

Amen sister. You can also lump Duke in there with Kentucky as far as I'm concerned. Having said that, I'm a big Roy Williams fan (always have been). If UNC doesn't take the title, I would like to see South Carolina win it.

Bill Self may've actually been doing his best coaching jobs this year and last year because I'm not so sure Kansas is quite as talented as Kansas teams of the past. Not near as deep anyway. Really nobody inside that's been all that great. Good guards but KU's always good good guards. But they pretty much ran away with the Big 12 and had deep runs in the tournament both of the last 2 years. Oregon just kinda exposed Kansas issues inside.

I agree....coach Self has talent, but KU hasn't been exceptionally deep the last two years. And I think he has done a really good job molding his team over the last two years to compensate for a fairly average inside game.

Having said that, Oregon outplayed them on Saturday....and more importantly, Oregon shot the ball well while KU did not. I would probably still give KU a slight edge they and Oregon were in a 7-game series, but that is the beauty of this tournament.
