Isn't the selection show Monday, or is it Tuesday? I couldn't find it on ESPN. Usually, it's Monday. Of course I'm old and stupid...

Thought I'd make a selection and a pre-game thread so we could all talk about stuff related to the tournament.

I think Creme has us pegged just about right, but I can't see them moving us out of the OKC bracket. Attendance would drop by 75 percent. I think we will end up there as a 6 or 7 seed.

I bet you're not that old. :ez-laugh:

I also expect we have a chance to be seeded so we have a chance to play our way to OKC. They may have to play with our seed to find a spot to get us into that part of the bracket.

I hope it plays out that way and we play well.

And I believe it is on ESPN-U, which isn't part of everyone's cable package. Like me. I need to go find a sports bar with that channel!

Still a six seed not in OKC for final predictions before tomorrow's selection.

I still don't think they will move us out of OKC. It makes no sense monetarily.

I think he has us a bit low. I see a #5, with luck a #4.

Creme has four Pac Twelve teams in the top sixteen. He must be the only one in the nation that has that favorable of an impression of the Pac Twelve.

The Pac-12 of old is not the Pac-12 of new. Their conference was stronger than ours overall this year. They also had their top four teams close to or in the Top 16 nationally, as well.

My best guess is a #5 seed, but we may slip to 6.

realimerpi had the Pacific Twelve as the #5 conference, well behind #1 Big Twelve. Usually, their rankings tend to be similar to those of the NCAA rpi. They listed the top four of the Pac Twelve as:
#11 Oregon State
#16 Arizona State
#20 Stanford
#28 California

If the NCAA were to use their rankings, they would have a #3, #4, #5, and #7.

It is going to be difficult to keep Oklahoma in OKC. Baylor will get the first look as a Big 12 school. They will be placed in OKC as a 2 seed. That would force them to bump Oklahoma to a 4, 5, 8, or 9 seed to be on the opposite side of the bracket to avoid the conference re-matches they try to avoid as long as possible.

Projections have WVU and TCU on the outside looking in, which I agree with based on RPI. That leaves 5 teams in the tournament. Hopefully all teams play to, or above, their seeds this season.

Also, the selection show is on ESPN at 6pm. Following the bracket reveal, they will have an analysis show at 7pm on ESPNU.

When you look at the top four from the Pac Twelve, the credentials are somewhat lacking.

Oregon State beat North Carolina, but lost to Tennessee
Arizona State played nobody in the top twenty-five
Stanford had the big win against UConn. But, they gave it back with losses to Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Chattanooga.
Cal played only Louisville, to whom they lost, along with Kansas and Long Beach State.

So, the signature wins were UConn and North Carolina. Everything else was a loss.

Texas had a better record than that, and they finished sixth.

Well, a 5 seed, as Syb has mentioned, would cover that.

I'm having a gut feeling today that given the lack of respect OU has gotten all year long in the polls, with announcers and Creme included, is about to manifest itself. Most people seem to think we aren't that good, which would be understandable, particularly if you are looking hard at our last five games (tournament included). Heck, most of the time even most of us aren't sure whether we're good, great, putrid or pathetic.

Yeah, the second place finish and the defeat of Baylor were big, but all the erratic play, losing to Kansas, choking in the pre-season, other poor performances, it just seems like people don't mind disparaging us.

The thing that would absolutely not surprise me is if, where ever they put the ladies, it's at a 7,8,9 seed. I think a sixth seed makes sense too. Above that, no way.

I think we tend to see our frailties without looking at those of others. Other teams and conferences have bad losses as well. Some conferences simply don't have any credentials.

In addition to the nonsense of the Pac 12, Creme has Mississippi State seeded above us. Is it because they were 15-0 in non-conference play? Well, they played nearly every game at home, going on the road to New Orleans, Southern Miss, and Louisiana-Lafayette. By far the strongest team they played was West Virginia, and they got them at Mississippi State. There are probably fifty teams that would have gone undefeated with their schedule. Even in the SEC, they lost to every ranked opponent except A&M whom they beat at Mississippi State. That was their only good win of the season.

Creme has George Washington at a four. They have two "good" wins, both over Dayton. They lost late to St. Louis (13-15) by 18,

Apparently, being the #3 team out of the #4 conference is better than being the #2 team out of the #1 conference since Ohio State is seeded above us.

I find it difficult to believe that the committee will reject being #2 in #1.

If they decide to seed us as a #1, which region do you think we will end up in? ;)

Just a push back at OState's suggestion we may end up as a #9. Just as likely a #1 as a #9.

Yeah, if we're a #9, Stoolwater State probably doesn't make the tourney!

We are not going to get a #1 or #2 seed. If we do, it will be a gift from God.

#5 is the absolute best we can do and we will be lucky if it isn't 7 or below. I think a #6 is most plausible.

Just to weigh in before the show tonight, I predict a six seed and that we are not in the OKC regional. Think making the sweet 16 would be tough, but possible depending upon the match-ups and how we play.

Think we get a 5 seed, maybe a 4. The committee will want us to win the first 2 games and get to OKC for attendance purposes. I do not anticipate an extremely tough first 2 round for this reason. Baylor will also be in OKC for attendance reasons too. If we make OKC, we would have to play the 1 seed the first game. As a 2 seed, Baylor would play the 3 seed if everything went according to seedings. JMO. May eat my words when the bracket comes out. Ms. Mulkey and Ms. Coale need to both be in OKC. Maybe they will have time to go out for lunch or shopping together. LOL

Agree 5 would be great, but it looks like a 6.

I agree with some of what you say, but not all. I think we gave up a 4 seed with the loss to Kansas followed by the loss to Texas in the tournament. It is not possible to know what seeds we might play in the first game of the sweet 16, even if we do get fortunate enough to be in OKC. Upsets along the way can change lots of things.

As to "not anticipating "an extremely tough first 2 rounds", it seems to me anything could be tough unless we play a reasonably good game. Kansas proved that.

I did not know SC and KM were best shopping friends. :ez-laugh:
