UConn men won also. In fact, UConn men have won Men won in 1999, 2004, 2011, and 2014, losing in 2009. The women have won nine titles. They have thirteen titles in basketball.
Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, and Duke have won a lot of basketball titles. How many football titles do they have between them?
It is about commitment to a program. We commit to football. We've committed to softball and gymnastics, in the past, wrestling. We put more into it than other schools in order to win.
UConn doesn't win football titles. We would clobber them in gymnastics or softball. But, they are dominant in basketball. Like we are willing to commit to football, they are willing to commit to basketball---both men's and women's. Our men's basketball teams are no more successful than our women's. It is great to make the Final Four, three times each. Is it that they got the best coaches at UConn? They are good. But, it is about the entire program---the department, the school, the university community. Alabama isn't all that great at basketball either, but they are good at football.
Unless you commit to being that top basketball school, you don't get the Kentucky and UConn recruits, at least enough of them. It's fine. They don't recruit well in football. What would make OU attractive to the basketball recruits?
