Seems like this will be Moser’s last year at OU. I will gladly eat crow but I doubt it’ll happen.

Who would you guys like OU to go after? Obviously the Drake coach. I also like Nebraska’s coach and think he’s done a good job there.

Anyone else?

Won't matter.

1) We don't have the infrastructure
2) We don't have the NIL set up
3) We don't have the fanbase

Coach K could come in here tomorrow and he'd be screwed. That's just the truth.

I get it. I wanted Moser to succeed too. And there are definitely issues with the basketball program. But there are plenty of coaches who would succeed at OU. Plenty of coaches who would not have blown an 18 point lead. I have to believe that as a fan or there’s just no point to it.

Yep, he probably would have lost by 20 last night despite Goodine going nuclear and having an 18-point lead.

As for coaches, it's hard to know who will be available. I would guess lots of folks will be calling Drake. The reality is, good coaches make a huge difference in college sports, and they can turn things around quickly thanks to the portal. Every year, in football and basketball, there are programs that make a huge leap after hiring a new coach, and they aren't always programs that have much history.

I want someone who gives us an in-game advantage. Someone who doesn't change his recruiting philosophy every other hour. Someone who is less concerned about complaining about the committee and the fan support, and more concerned with the stuff he can directly control. Who understands that you need a vastly different level of athlete, and probably a different way of playing, in the SEC than the Mo Valley. Someone who doesn't talk about a culture wall, but actually creates an identity for the program. Four years in, and the question is the same -- what is OU basketball good at in the Moser era? What defines us? What do other teams have to worry about when they play us? We aren't a good rebounding team. We have been average to below average defensively. We shoot it ok some years but never at an elite level. We aren't a physical team that imposes our will on the opponent. Three of four years, we have been very unathletic for a Big 12 or SEC team. The one year we had several good athletes (last year), Moser made no attempt to play a defensive style to take advantage of that.

I'm old enough to remember when everyone was pissed we didn't get Jerome Tang.
I'd take one great season and two crappy ones over 4 crappy seasons. You prefer all crap? And KSU fans are beyond pissed at him already, midway through his second bad season. But Moser definitely deserves more chances.

Also didn’t KSU spend a BUNCH of money on their roster?

They definitely did this season and it has been a flop. And he and the players have said some stupid stuff in the media that has turned fans against them.

in this new age of nil and player transfers....i'm not convinced there are plenty of coaches who would succeed at ou.
assuming there are.....how many would take the ou job....

I think there’s no question a better coach could get better results. I also agree with Indy that we lack the infrastructure, NIL, or fans base to compete with the big dogs.

Would a better coach come here? That's the burning question.

I mean, there are certainly qualified and/or promising coaches out there that would jump at an opportunity to coach in a P4 conference.

  • Will Wade (McNeese State)
  • Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon)
  • Bucky McMillan (Samford)
  • Alan Huss (High Point)
  • Ben McCollum (Drake)
The question is, are we still an attractive enough program that any of those guys would be interested? When we hired Moser, he was a big name. So I'm sure we are capable of getting a solid candidate. But the problem will be that they have to choose us too.

And NONE of those guys would be a sure bet. In fact, most of them have less track record than Porter had coming in.

We want ZERO to do with Will Wade. There's enough history with people tied to the program that I'm 99.99% sure Will Wade would never be considered.

What I posted on Trilly's discord last night.

But...it'll fluctuate, is largely based on this early season (plus past), and I would need to dig much deeper....assistants, etc.

NO KELLEN SAMPSON. Be more imaginative.

And yeah, I know Wade is in the "not happening" pile which brings me to my next point....

Time for the AD to retire. Respectfully, of course.

With that I agree. But Wade still won’t get the call. There are others who know him and know too much about him that are decision makers.

Mcmillan for sure. No one can be worse than pm

This is a shame because I think will wade is exactly the kind of coach that could thrive at OU.

People that say we don’t have the infrastructure to win must ignore college athletics as a whole. There are lots of schools out there that succeed despite having less NIL than others. And we DO have more money than most. We’re just not in that upper echelon of spenders.
