New commit!

tycat,
Most impressive thing about that note you found on the tourney where McKenna was named MVP.

Beat out her own teammate Collier who is a top 5 player for 2015 verballed to Uconn
and beat out another top 5 2015 player in Durr and a 3rd top top 5 for 2015 in Brown.

So in that tourney she was playing on an elite team against elite competition.

Looks like her HS Incarnate Word in St.Louis is a prep powerhouse having an alum from there won't hurt in recruiting either.

Do you know who else played in that tournament? Penzo.

syb,
well that's another interesting data point on Penzo. Since as I indicated in a previous thread, it does not appear any of the services really scouted her HS career.

Previously from STL and indeed Incarnate Word is a girls' sport powerhouse in that metro area and the state of MO. They may be in class 4A which is the
2nd largest classification in MO. I believe MO makes smaller all girl or all boy schools play up to even out the opposition.

Do we all think our new Sooner starts immediately, by conference or at all next year.

Kaylon has been identified as one of the girls that wasn't putting in 100 percent.

That makes me think the new girl gets the nod if she is as good as Kay-Kay from the get go and her injury as healed.

No. Williams will start, get the majority of the minutes, and do a good job.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the 4 and 5. I suspect we will see Sharane primarily at the 4. I expect Kaylon to start at the 5 with ViVi and Treece in reserve. Which of those two get the most minutes should be a good battle. If Kaylon cannot play effectively, she could be the one coming off the bench.

I think our guard play will be the best it's been in some time. The interior is still a question mark.

I think that Pierre-Louis and Treece will either motivate or replace Kaylon.

Let's hope it is the motivation side. Kaylon looks to have the ability to be a good player. Focus and motivation will make that happen.

I agree, I think until injured the starting 5 position was going to be Louis's to lose. I don't think at the moment we could win the big 12 with Kay Kay as our starting center.

Mac I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I certainly think McKenna and Vivi will give Kaylon motivation. Kaylon has the ability to be a top notch center, is she motivated enough to put in the work to do that. I am glad we have a kid coming in who already has a blue collar work ethic on both ends of the floor and Pierre-Louis who also seems talented to push for playing time. This summer and fall will be interesting to see where the chips fall during work outs. I am pleasantly excited.

I do think Kaylon will be our starter for the beginning, but if she continues to struggle, it looks like there are kids who will come in and compete for her job.

I must admit that if I were on the staff, I would be putting a lot of time in with Gibbs who has a great deal of talent. With some idea of how to play the game, I could see her as starting soon.

I'm afraid you're right. Some have said that she is rusty from being off a year with her injury. I'm not sure that's it. One would expect that being off would affect shooting touch but I don't see how being off would affect her propensity to foul. In some games she looked pretty good for a few minutes but fouls sent her back to the bench. I never saw a killer instinct to rebound the basketball as she only averaged 2.8 RPG.

If Griffin couldn't motivate Kaylon, I'm concerned the newbies won't be able too either. That is why I think there is a big question mark at the center position and I could see either of the two new girls give her a run for the starting job. I hope I'm wrong because we need for her to be really good.

Syb, I find it interesting that you rate Gibbs so high. I agree she seems to be a big, strong girl, but we have no real idea what this project can do.

What makes you think she could be goose nought to start in six months?

Sometimes, you look for an ability to do something that a team needs. Let's assume that the team has what it needs from the standpoint of guards. We can shoot, drive, and score. But, we need a presence in the paint for rebounding and defense. We don't need scoring, other than maybe a putback. We need control and a way to get the ball.

I haven't seen Kaylon provide that element. Essentially, the role that Abi played late in her senior year would be a good fit for this team. She wasn't a great scorer, but she was a presence.

If Gibbs could just be trained to be in the way on defense and get the rebound, that would be more than we have had in the past couple of years. Get the rebound and let the guards dominate the floor. If anything, our posts have been somewhat in the way of our forwards on offense. We don't need for Gibbs to be a complete player, just to fill a role. I saw enough to know she has the ability. She simply has no idea how to use it. She was so poorly trained in HS that she looks like she has never seen a court. If she could fill this role, she would be what we lacked in Kaylon---get the ball. Kaylon simply doesn't seem to have learned that her primary objective is to get the ball.

To me Gibbs is quick, strong and very aggressive. The few times she got into the game she usually got rebounds and scored. Didn't get much a feel for her defensive ability but she seems to have skills that would convert well to defense.

I felt that she should have played more minutes as we had a number of blowouts both ways. But Sherri plays her starters and upper class players a lot of minutes leaving few for the likes of Gibbs.

I would think that if she has potential she would have had more exposure. If not why use the scholarship.

Has Treece signed her LOI yet? I guess we are still in the spring signing season.

Not really. I think you want me to say Jo. But, she didn't have the ball enough to see a defined pattern. If anything, she was a bit more like Christofferson. But, she wasn't particularly aggressive on the boards in this game, something that supposedly changed as a senior. Since she was pretty much open when she got the ball, I couldn't tell much about her. She did dribble when she got it.

I thought she was mobile for someone with consistent leg and foot injuries. Seemed light on her feet for someone her size. But, the flow didn't go through her much.

I thought the officials slowed the game down too much. Looked almost like TV timeouts at times. They also never called charging. Did they?

I have seen one report that said that UConn is looking at one of Incarnate Word's players, but he didn't know why. The player couldn't score unless they were right under the basket. He was high on the point guard. I thought the point guard was erratic, self-indulgent, and lost the ball easily.

But, I didn't see enough of Treece to draw any conclusions other than she seemed light on her feet.
