New softball thread

Everyone keep voting for Shelby for Senior Class Award. She has a slight lead right now but could use your votes. You can vote once everyday. Boomer Sooner!

Anything new to report on the prospects for tonight's game being played???

Just checked (1:50 p.m. C.T.) the NWS forecast for Norman. They're saying just partly cloudy skies until 8 p.m. (gametime), then there will be a 25% chance for scattered showers. It increases to 35% by 9 p.m.

Keeping it positive, guess that means 65-75% chance that it won't rain.

Since it isn't expected to rain tonight, I wish we had played a double-header today. Tomorrow and Saturday aren't as promising.

The Baylor pitcher can throw some heat. Her fast ball can get up close to 70mph.

I don't want to play another tonight. I trust us to be able to come back and win
on another day. I also think they can get two more games in on Saturday and, if not, then a third one on Sunday. However, I do know that won't work as well for television coverage.

We need a night to collect our thoughts about how to approach this pitcher. Texas run-ruled us once last year, too. Baylor beat us one of three, I think.

Exactly! I didn't see anyone play well tonight. I think it's really bad the North Texas game was postponed from midweek. It seemed the whole team was feeling pressure and Hypocrite U had nothing to lose. Patty usually takes the opportunity after a game like this to light the fire. Hopefully, we see a different Sooner team tomorrow.

Okay, I did not see the game and checked the stats only a couple of times.
Would someone tell me what they discerned from watching the game. I don't know all the ends and outs of softball or baseball, so seeing it probably wouldn't have told me as much as it did some of you, though I do think can usually pick-up a little regarding attitude and confidence when watching. At least, I believe I do. Anyway, any insight would be appreciated if someone has the time and inclination. I believe this team could win it all but so could a few other teams.

I almost wonder if the HR record is hurting Lauren. I think it would be normal no matter how much of a team player you are for it to affect your game.

What I really appreciate about Lauren is she was a leader in getting things to the Moore tornado victims and she was one of the leaders in the OUnitedathletes which developed from discrimation issues brought to the forefront by the SAE scandal.

womenss - Tonight our team was so up tight it was flat. The media making a big deal out of Laurern's nearness to setting a new NCAA record - the item has distracted the whole team. So Lauren needs to hit a couple of HR's so this team can get back to business - which it will. Baylor landed 4 hits in perfect places, took a nice lead and our team got even tighter - offense, defense, pitching, whatever. Very unusual game but if they played 60 more games they couldn't land 4 in a row like they did tonight - all perfectly placed. Baylor does have a good pitcher but so do we. We'll get 'em.

Lots to agree with in this post. I expect Lauren is pressing quite a bit. Hopefully she will get past the record and relax again.

Baylor is like so many 2nd tier programs. They get up for what they consider programs stronger than theirs, and they load up the schedule on teams they should seldom play. Just look at their schedule. Almost all low level programs. Just before they played this series with us they got beat twice (run ruled even) by Louisiana-Lafayette.

They do the same in all sports. I saw recently that their non-conference football schedule for next year was rated the absolutely worst in all of major division football. It cost conference teams millions of dollars last year due to missing the playoff. There is talk of creating a conference rule about schedules - requiring they be reasonable for a team in one of the Big-5 conferences. Kansas State did the same for several years but have beefed it up a bit lately.

Paige was clearly not sharp. Her control was off and she had trouble throwing strikes and in an effort to throw striked she threw some fat ones. Casey was off in her fielding and throwing, there was dayoight between Lauren's bat and the pitches, Shelby was not focused - the whole team was a bit flat and Baylor was hot behind very good pitching.
There are days like this. Draw a line threw it and go on.

I think so too. And it is a shame that the North Texas game mid-week was postponed because of rain or this may have already been over. I didn't see when we were run-ruled by LSU but this was probably the worst game I've seen them play all season. I think Patty will have them focused tonight!

Thanks for the input, String and others. Do appreciate it. Last night would have been a perfect night to go. Great weather, fireworks, atmosphere AND a win....I should have gone.

Game today starts at noon and will be on FSN. Looks like Parker is getting the start on the mound.
