Newell headed to Central Florida

Unbelievable. Then again, I guess nothing that happens to this program should be that surprising nowadays.

Obviously he either got into some sort of trouble that wasn't made public or he just doesn't want to be here for some reason. Either way it's best for both parties that he moves on so I'm going to try to not dwell on it.

Strange deal. Very strange.

Yup, this only makes sense if 1) he has a lot of family in Florida or 2) was going to have to leave anyway and nobody wants to say so. I suppose that there are other reasons to transfer but they don't make a whole lot of sense without more information....which won't be forthcoming to be sure. I hope he does well and good luck to him. Lord knows that was a tough age for me and made some foolish decisions that have followed me around to this day.

Was it that he didn't want to come off the bench? Did he clash with Kruger? Unless his family is also moving to Florida, he isn't any closer to them.

I do know that Central Florida offered him during his initial recruitment.

Maybe he just didn't want to wait 2 years to become a starter. Coming in to the year, a lot of people thought he could pass Pledger on the depth chart, but the way Pledger is playing, that no longer seemed likely.

Ah, the old "transfer to be closer to my family" story. Max Power is right, we were had...again!

I knew the "transferring to be closer to home" thing was a crock when I heard it. But nobody here wanted to believe it.

Either he is upset that he wasn't starting, or upset that Kruger benched him a short while for bad shot selection against STL.

In his defense, Calvin is a few hundred mile closer to his family. He's still about a thousand miles away, but he is closer.

This reminds me of a situation that happened to my beloved San Diego Padres in 1998. Kevin Brown was a free agent, and he'd just finished up a monster season for us. We tried to sign him, but he was adamant that he wanted to pitch closer to home, which was in Macon, Georgia. We all assumed he'd sign with the Braves, or maybe even go back to the Marlins.

He ended up signing for over 100 million dollars............with the Los Angeles Dodgers!

Maybe Calvin is upset that Kruger won't let him wear Jordans. Transferring to Central Florida certainly solves that problem (MJ's son is on the UCF team).

Let me preface this with a BIG "IF", but IF that is actually the case that is not a guy we want around this program anyway. We've had more than enough of those guys in recent years.

I don't disagree.

There is definitely some unspoken problems with him. All toxicity must be cut loose.

It's a 14 minute drive on the turnpike from Philly to Orlando. (if you hit the traffic just right)
