GAME 26 - OKLAHOMA (16-9) @ #2 Florida (22-3) 6:00pm CST on ESPN2 (this should go well )

In a world where we do have the funds to pursue non mid-major coaches... who would y'all prefer as head coach?

Buzz Williams
or
Kellen Sampson

I personally would rather take a risk on someone like Kellen Sampson who could potentially be a home run hire if all the pieces are in place.
Will Wade

Offer him porters contract of 3.2 million

2.8 million being paid to Will Wade, 400k being paid to NIL(Show Donors the University is also trying at least, even though it doesn't technically come out of there pocket)

100k bonus for making the NCAA Tourney-100k Bonus for finishing top 5 in the SEC Basketball Standings or winning the SEC Tourney-200k Bonus for making the Sweet 16-Anything beyond that results in new contract talks. (Has the opportunity to earn his full contract)

I have never liked Buzz, and Kelvin is my favorite coach of all time, but I would take Buzz over Kellen a hundred times out of a hundred. I'm not sure why Kellen would be considered any more likely to be a home run than anyone else who shares DNA with a successful coach, and I can't think of many (any?) children of great coaches who went on to have great coaching careers themselves. It's not impossible, but rare for someone who has never been a head coach at any level to get their first job at a P$ school and come in and be immediately successful, especially when they are still fairly young and haven't been exposed to many different experiences. Yes, he has watched his dad up close for a long time, but as coaches always say, when you slide over one chair to the left (or right) and are now the man in charge of everything, both during games and in all aspects of the program, that is a massive jump.
Couldn't agree with this more. Also, I am clearly biased and may be one of the few who likes Buzz Williams.

But, name any son of a highly successful coach that went P5 and had success in the last 30 years. Not to mention we are now in an NIL era.

Who cares if he was a walk-on here, hire a real coach with experience. OU should not be a trial job. Go prove yourself as a coach first, quit riding coat-tails and expecting to be handed the world. If he was a good coach, he would have been poached already by someone.

Hiring kellen would be the most OUiest hire of all time by OU and would surely lead to more disaster

random (just putting it in the first thread)

and for context ..the DUKE guys starting

Flagg 5 star best player in the class #1 pick in the coming NBA draft ..

Maluach 5 star either #1 or #2 center in the class projected top 10 pick

Knueppel 5 star or very high 4 star .. and a GREAT shooter projected top 10 pick

all Elite players ..

In some ways, Lon Kruger 2.0.
Not a bad comparison in what results are, although I think Buzz would be more of a player-friendly coach, and fan favorite for the younger generations and students than LK was. He also seems to historically close better on the top recruits wherever he's been than Kruger. Possibly because he seems to relate better than LK, and has that player-friendly style. And he has some of that same PM energy and intensity, which is good, but without the nervous anxiety and micro-managing that doesn't help PM.

LK was loved and respected but his team, but more of a father figure respect if that makes sense.

But I would take Buzz compared to many other potential candidates. He's done it at multiple stops, in major conferences. And I just don't think we can attract what we would want with the level of commitment, or lack of it, and where we are as a program right now.

Edit: who the heck is that on Twitter? Not Jeremiah's handle
Isn't it his dad? I think he must be trying to make a joke about how he should still be in high school and deciding on where to go to college, but it took me a bit to figure that out -- which either means it's not a great joke, or I am an idiot. Probably the latter.

i mean, he's NBA next year regardless, isn't he? I wish he would stay, but i seriously doubt anyone with any talent would want to come back to Norman next season unless we hired a huge name. which we won't.

Yes for now, signing with the agency firm i'm sure they will field interest/offers from colleges over the next month to compare both options.

Not sure totally how accurate this is, but gives you numbers on 1st NBA contract based on draft position.

i assume that is his dad.
Not great bob
If it is his Dad, read his other responses. The whole thread is floated with sarcasm.

He replies that he's not good enough to play at Illinois, or that he doesn't like playing more than 20 minutes a game, and that he's the only F that should return to college. With laughing emojis.

Whoever it is, he just slammed a brilliant troll job to all college basketball fans.

I think that is way low. Isaiah Collier from USC was a F out of college who was the last guard drafted in the first round at #29 last year. His college stats are very similar to Fears, but a year and a half older (which isn't a positive). His contract was a 4-year $13M deal with an AAV of $3.3M. Guarantee of $5.2M.

According to the chart on the link, NEXT year at the 29th pick would have a 4-year contract worth about $10.7M and an AAV of $2.7MM.

And I doubt Fears would do anything over these last 5, or 6, games to slip to the last picks of the 1st round. But the link is a great reference point for a range for 1st rounders.

BTW, the top NIL earner this year is Cooper Flagg at an estimated.... $3.3M.

True, but playing another year for Moser and losing by 25 points per night . . . priceless!
