The older he gets, the less potential he has. It does erode his draft prospects, especially if he doesn’t progress.

Also, there are a bunch of guys with potential that never develop. There’s a gap between potential and actually becoming an NBA player. Not everyone gets there for a variety of reasons. Every year there’s a new batch of young potential players. Every year older is a declining draft prospect unless you’re a proven commodity.

Of course there are people who don’t pan out. But again, that’s a universal thing. It’s not unique to Fears. We are picking apart his game because we know it better than all the prospects on other teams.

Remember Willie warren.. he prolly was less celebrated than Fears, but idk. I could be wrong on that. But WW could have had a 2-3 year career (if he was just going to objectively be a bust), but instead he never sniffed the nba

Coming out of HS, Warren was more celebrated…but I don’t think he ever was an estimated lottery pick. WW had a very solid freshman year and in hindsight should have entered the draft…but Fears is more of a true PG than WW was. Fears has struggled in a handful of SEC games, and isn’t a great 3 pt shooter…but you can’t discount his age. He’s young!

Personally I hope he goes. I just don’t want to see him in another college uniform!

Okay he smelled the nba for 19 games lol

At least he was credited with one NBA season. He was a 2nd round draft pick, much like Ryan Minor was in 1996. They're linked because both would have been 1st round picks had they entered the NBA Draft one year earlier than they did. They are the OU poster boys for not entering the NBA Draft when they were a lock as 1st round picks. If I was Fears, I'd enter my name in the Draft the moment this season ends.
