Newell headed to Central Florida

I'm sorry but most of this is garbage ..

Pledger is a better basketball player in about every "metric" you want to use

better shooter (not close), better passer, better rebounder, better at taking care of the ball, better team defender, smarter player, better team player, better communicator, better post player, more clutch.

Newell is better and getting his shot off 1 on 1 on the outside and maybe a better one on one player (i say maybe because in the post it is not close and because turnovers are a big deal) and newell is a better 1 on 1 on ball defender ..(this happens for 5-10 sec at a time) he is an average at best team defender ...

does losing calvin hurt sure he would have been a bench spark this season and averaged 7-10 ppg ... is he better than pledger and should he have been starting ... not on any team in the world

you say Coach was harder on Calvin then every one else ... then say that he wouldn't run the sets and that he wouldn't look the coach in the eye ..... sounds like the coach should be hard on him ..

I said I didn't want to get into a Pledger Newell arguement. I'm telling you what I saw. And I resent that you reference my opinions as garbage.

My opinion on this topic are informed to this extent. I went to enough early practices, and paid close enough attention, that I understood how Kruger was rotatating players thru scimmages and drills. That understanding enabled me to understand who the starters were at that particular point.

While Pledger started out ahead,Calvin was never far behind. Somewhere between the inter-squad scrimmage and the exibition games there was about a 5/6 day period that Calvin was clearly going to be the starter. It came as no surprise at all. Calvin was outperforming Pledger in practice.

But, he imploded. He couldn't handle prosperity. He never shook his attitude. Remember that game or two when Pledger was suspended. Kruger started Blair at the #2 in front of Calvin. I'm sure that was Kruger's last ditch attempt to get Calvin's attention. Appartently, it didn't work.

As far as Pledger, if he can play 30 minutes a game and keep doing things as well as he has, mayby Calvin won't be missed much. But, let me be perfectly clear on this point. This years Calvin is a vastly superior player than last years Pledger.

Now, if you want to get all balled up with the belief that this years Pledge is also vastly superior to last years Pledger, that may be true. I sure hope so. But, at this point in time that is just your opinion.

So far this season, we have played several Eastern Popcorn States and one decent team. Against the decent team, well, no evidence yet. Mayby later down the road and deeper into the season you will be proved right about Pledger. So, I'm not quite ready to call you opinion garbage. But, I'll reserve the right.

Just curious, where is the report coming from that he is going to C. Florida?

If you google it, it's coming from here and only here, that's why i wondering if it was official or not yet.

I'm pretty sure that UCF can't say anything until he enrolls, if that is the case.

Also, it is a fact that his mother and grandmother have passed recently, right? He signed to play basketball somewhere and the coach leaves after the first year and his mother and grandmother both pass in a very short period of time so it's going to be understandable that a teenager can be hurt, confused, upset, etc., etc. and they may make choices/decisions that they later regret. I wish him the best and hope he's successful wherever he lands.

Jeff Goodman, CBS college basketball reporter. He may have been mistaken but definitely said Newell was going to UCF this morning "per sources".

He's usually right. He has good sources

This, Goodman Tweeted it Earlier today

There is definitely some unspoken problems with him. All toxicity must be cut loose.

It's a1,114 minute drive on the turnpike from Philly to Orlando. (if you hit the traffic just right)
Goodbye and good riddance.

I remember Osby tweeting something like " You can't act like this...this isn't high school anymore" a couple days before the Anaheim tourney. I wondered at the time who he might be talking about. I'm not saying it was about Newell because I have no idea. Just find it interesting that he left the team a couple days later.

Osby and his old lady don't always get along. More often then not, comments like that are about her. But again, I don't know for sure either.

Wow. I wanna be closer to home. Give me a physical break. These ***** ass kids with their outsized egos and meager accomplishments get upset and take their marbles to play elsewhere. Meanwhile we waste time recruiting them, trying to revive and build a program around them, and they go off to Central f'n Florida.

I need a drink.....

Here's a quote from Newell that came directly from Soonersports.com. OUHoops posted it on another thread right after the report surfaced:

Yeah... I would be interested to read his explanation on this choice. Sounds like a pretty weak facade now.

Never going to get it, probably best to go with the: "It was mutually beneficial to all parties involved." explanation and let it go. We lost a guy off the bench, I can think of worse [no jinx!].

Not surprised, but after the last 2 years of Capel, I can brush this off pretty easily. And I was a big Newell fan too. Oh well.

Can't blame you for that. Now you have some idea how so many other posters have felt when you've derided their posts in similar fashion.

Welcome to the conversation. Please, check your recollection.

Let me help you. My position is, that when people have nothing of substance to bring to an arguement, they respond with name calling and mean spirited personal insults.

In our dealings, that has been your tactic not mine.

Good thing this year's Pledger is a vastly superior player than last year's Pledger.
