NEWS about the NCAA TOURNEY and a ?

If the Tourney was 72 the last 3 years .. OU would have been in the Dance 2 of the last 3 years .. ..

would that change how you feel about Moser??
No but it would diminish the tourney to add teams, even though it’s inevitable. 64 was perfect. The playin games are silly but I can live with them since it pretty quickly filters into a 64-team bracket. Going beyond that is ridiculous. Like Jay Bilas always says, the purpose of the tournament is to crown a national champion. People spend way too much time thinking about/debating the final handful of teams. If it expands to 300 teams, the first few out would still complain.

No. For me, I enjoy more about a college basketball season than trying to barely slide into the tournament. I enjoy beating rivals, having winning conference records, and being in the top echelon of the conference if not winning it every once in awhile. Whipping the non conference slate but getting worse as the season progresses is getting old..

No. Because I've never jumped off the Moser boat. I still think he's the right guy for the job and will have us in the right place VERY soon (we might already be there). He's been handcuffed with lack of funds and lack of facilities. All of that is (hopefully) changing and results are starting to show already.

If I had to choose, I would pick a 32 team tourney over anything more than the 64 team.

Also, I would get rid of the players in games regardless or move them to only the 16 seed games

going to 72 would just give us 8 opening round games instead of the 4 .. and it would still filter in at the same time ..

No. I like Moser personally but being the last team in vs the first team out makes no difference to me. I am impressed with what he put together this year when it looked like we would have nothing. But losing conference games like we lost to TT and Houston at home; losing to Ut by 15 at home - that has to stop or we are just pretending it can get better.

I hate the play-in games. I don't want to ever see the field expand. Why even have the regular season if we are going to have a 200 team tournament?
Bingo. Also, i think it lessens the chance of crowning who should "really" win it (the best team) by adding more and more trash

It just waters things down. Think of how bad we were the final two months of last season. How does adding OU and three other similarly undeserving teams enhance the tournament? And when would the added games be played if you want to keep the true start of the tournament on Thursday?

they would just play 4 games on Tuesday and 4 on Wednesday .. instead of the 2 each the currently play .... really really simple ..

i can see it two ways, first as a traditionalist the 64 team bracket was awesome and never should of been changed. But now seeing how players have to get paid playing more games means more money. Everything is now becoming a cash grab and Athletic Departments need to find as much cash as they can. it is what it is now.

Question for those who remember-

How did people take the news of the tournament expanding from 32 to 64? Was it a big deal at all?

It was 48 for a time before going to 64. I don't remember how long, though. I don't remember any complaints going from 48-64 since the only change was nobody got a bye in the first round. I was young then, so I might not have been paying attention.

It would completely change the narrative. People don’t bitch about #17, or #33 or #49 or #65 being undeserving anymore .. and that was going to dilute it. This happens every time a post season expands. Fans have this idea that only “deserving” N number of teams should compete that keeps expanding with each expansion lol. If you want to double down on that then just have profitable teams have teams and save millions for any school that runs a deficit and call it a day. Might be going there anyway now.

We had the field of 64 for 16 years only. 85-00
It was the field of 65 in 01-10 10 years
It has been 68 for 15 years this season.
So 25 years now there has been an opening round.
Oh, I know. And I think every subsequent expansion is silly. Do you recall which conference's dissolution provided us with the vaunted field of 65?
I think the First Four should be eight 16-seeds. Wine em, dine em, win your game and you're in the field of 64. Sending 11 and 12-seeds to Dayton is dumb-bee-doo-bee-DUMB.

It wouldn't surprise me to see 72 teams, but count me in for those who loved it at 64. I remember all the hype the first year they had 64 (1985 when OU was a #1 seed)...we had a great thing for the rest of the 20th century. It was 48 teams for only 4-5 years in the first half of the 1980s. It started with 8 teams back in 1939, with OU being one of them.

I like Coach Moser and realize he has been coaching at a disadvantage since Joe C has not adapted to the NIL era as quickly as other ADs. We do have some incentive for wanting him to succeed beyond the obvious. Only ONE SCHOOL in the history of the NCAA has had SIX consecutive head coaches take at least one team to the Sweet 16 or beyond - Kansas. OU would join them if Moser can make at least one run to the second weekend while he's at OU. Yeah, I know, first things first. He has to make it to the Dance. Let's hope this is the year!
