Next Portal Commit?

Love Shack is a great name......song is okay, but the name is solid.

Seems awfully quiet on the transfer front - has to be some news popping soon, right? I don't want this to be it - as PM has a good / great start, but they are far from having a competitive roster in the Big 12 at this point.

Come on insiders, do your thing :)

If Coach knows nothing, I am worried

LeTre Darthard could well be the next commitment. There should be more after that too. We still need a starter quality 4.

Not putting words in CoachTalk’s mouth, but pretty sure he is referring to whoever the “secret” recruit/portal player is.

Dang, makes me feel better already. :)

He turned 20 in January so he would have been 19 when he graduated from high school. Some kids aren't ready for kindergarten and their parents don't start them until they are 6, which makes them a year older than everyone else in their class.

It's called red shirting here in the "coal region" of PA. I'm just south of the coal region. In PA, if a kid is good in a sport (usually football), the coach/school may approach the parents and say their child is less than proficient in a particular subject. He should repeat a grade. Must be done before his/her freshman year. Makes an athlete 18/19 by his /her senior year.

I’m sure this board has some MWC guys who did eighth grade twice. One of the keys to Bomber excellence in 80’s.

When my kids were in middle school, I was told that Holland Hall tested all kids before kindergarten and the boys never passed the test so they had to 'red shirt' and start kindergarten the next year.

as a former teacher/wife as well...our son was an august bday. We decided to hold him back before K, was 18 his Sr yr. Went from a 5'9 160 soph to a 6'3 200 Sr, played baseball...

It was more about mental/emotional/physical maturity....the sports was a benefit

I graduated at 18 (Jan of my senior year) at 6'5" and 185...played college basketball and at 19 I was 6'5.5" and 215 lbs with probably 3 more inches added to my vertical....my senior year would have likely been much different had I been held back a year.

Sounds like LeTre will make it official today/tomorrow. He is following the Twitter account for commitment edits. No reason to assume it isn’t going to be ou.

i didn't turn 18 until a couple weeks into college (late august birthday) ..

i would been much better in football/basketball/baseball with another year of highschool ..

That would be a good get!

I could bore you for hours with "illegal public school football recruiting rumors" from the '80's and' 90's.

This is very normal. Being a July birthday who grew two inches in college wish I had been held back for athletic reasons and driving early. Never mattered academically.

For the last 25 years boys with late birthdays start late and are then held back at some point before high school. It’s how they get to 20 before ever stepping on a college campus.

I've lost track: Is there still something big potentially in the works or has that window of opportunity closed?

I was a June baby and I wish my parents would have started me a year later. I was always one of the younger kids in my class. I was still a big guy relatively speaking, but another year to grow and mature would have helped even more from a sports standpoint. To this day, all I have to show for it are bad knees and a bum shoulder.:D

Lol… ya. I was july.. the only good for me is I’m the last to turn 60/70 etc from my buddies… course that means I was the last to turn 18/21 lol

So how are we going to spend our last two ships?

Starting 4 (Johnson, Collins, or Holland are dream options but unrealistic)
Best available guard — shooter or ball handler
