OU plays M'baye 20 plus minutes and has the option to play Hield and Hornbeak. Neal and Blair may be the 9th and 10th guys in the rotation

Are Hield and Hornbeak terrific ball handlers? Right now, we need ball handlers more than anything.

Man there are a lot of people on this board that are overhyping M'baye right now.

I wonder who they are going to blame next year when this transfer from a 20-loss Wyoming team turns out to be just a solid role player and not Karl Malone or Michael Jordan like Osby was "supposed" to be?

M'Baye is a very good player. Expecting 20 minutes from him isn't reaching.
He was the best player on Wyoming last year as a sophomore.

We still have half a season to go. There's no way we can really know what will happen in that time.

Hornbeak has good handles. Haven't seen enough of Hield yet, but by all accounts he does, too. IMO, both players will see meaningful minutes next season.

I am going solely off of reports that he is one of the better players on the team and that he started as a sophomore and averaged 12 ppg and was the leading rebounder on his team.

I have no expectation that he will play the 3 like some of the people on this board claim. I do think OU is going to effectively have 6 starters next year because I think M'Baye is going to be a guy that could or may start. OU is going to have a nice front court with Osby, Fitz and M'baye. The Sooners are going to get some much needed depth in the backcourt. Those two things along with a year of experience is going to make OU a much better team.

Talent is talent.

The problem with most casual fans is that when they hear words like talented and best player, they automatically think points. If you have seen Osby play you can easily see how talented and versatile this guy is. He is one rebound a game away from averaging a double double per game, he blocks shots, plays great defense and defends multiple positions on the court. Osby is as talented as he was reported to have been.

Exactly. And Osby transferred because he wasn't getting playing time at his last school. M'Baye transferred despite being the best player on the team at his last school.
Granted, there's a difference between Mississippi State and Wyoming, but I won't be surprised at all to see M'Baye equal or surpass Osby's contribution this year in 2012-13.

I watch the Sooners practice at least once a week and M'Baye will definitely be a welcomed addition next year. He has excellent athleticism, length and is more aggressive offensively than is Osby. Not as strong on the boards as Romero but should score more and can shoot the 3.

OU will definitely be a better team with Amath and has the potential to be more than a more than just a role player but he will not be all conference caliber either. Clark's development, Amath' ability to defend at the 3 and be consistent will determine if he is a starter. Otherwise he is the first big man off of the bench and will become just a role player at the 3/4.
