You know it's a weird season when you feel like celebrating (just a little bit) a ninth-place conference finish, but that's where I am tonight. We seemed destined for the cellar for a while, but the team kept fighting.

Especially given that it's texas who finished in last place. Plenty of our fans have rated Shaka Smart more highly than our own coach, but Coach Kruger topped the younger hotshot this season.

I admit I had coach envy after Lon's hire. I changed my mind after seeing the product though.

I LOVE how he lets his teams play. It gets frustrating sometimes at ground zero ... but the long-term result is so much more efficient and satisfying.

I like how it engenders an open atmosphere with his team and it's a really enjoyable style of ball. It actually makes me sad thinking we won't have him here for too many more years because this style of ball could yield some amazing players in C&C.

You know, people always complained when we had Kelvin and he wouldn't let his kids play. Yes, it had good results but some games we lost we should have won because he tried to take the air out of the ball. As frustrated as I get that players like Lattin and Doolittle have some poor shot selection, in reality they all have it sometimes, but it will get better. The style he coaches is fun to watch as a fan too.

I like the fact that he doesnt rail on kids about their shots. A quick shot for example. If the kid took it from a place he normally makes shots and he took it in rhythm then it was a good shot. Of course he will then remind them to be wary of the situation.

He wants everyone to be on the same page because what they do is the "right" ... not necessarily the practiced one. Thats good coaching.

They have plenty to work on this off season...I hope their shooting picks up next year
