Not deep enough to run this fast

I think one of our problems with taking the ball to the hole so much is that my sense is that the game was called more like last year than with this year's guidelines. Things seem to be trending more that way lately in games that I have seen. I don't think we got the foul calls that we have had in the early games.

In any event we probably should have done a better job of adjusting our game than continuing to bang our heads against the wall. Particularly since we were forcing shots from bad angles.

I'm probably one of those expecting too much from our guys. Actually, for the most part they have played better than I visualized.

But against La Tech both Woodard and Buddy had sub-par games. Cousins was great early and then sort of disappeared. Good game by Booker. He continues to contribute more every game. He has a better all-around game than I expected. Beginning to look a little more in the flow on offense.

Cousins was in foul trouble most of the 2nd half

My opinions......

- When we play up tempo, then it puts more pressure on Spangler. He's our front court. Period. It's tough when you have to push and shove to get position inside.... it's really physically draining, and then have to run the up tempo game. It's critical to keep him fresh even if we have to slow the pace down.

- On the other hand, we're a lot better playing up tempo because our half court offense is kind of iffy. Our guards can get out and fly.

- Buddy sometimes plays too much out of control. I love his hustle and enthusiasm, but he needs to pick his spots and play smarter.

- As a long-time official (like Ada), we're still having trouble adapting to the new rules. So are the referees. We have a game like Tulsa where they call a foul on any touch in the lane, and then the other night they let them play more. Officiating crews call games differently. We have to adapt. (I think by the time the tournaments come, they will let teams play and not call them as tight.... it's not enjoyable to watch a free throw contest).

- Woodard is still learning. That was his first off game. I'm wondering if he is still trying to shake off the effects of the flu because he is getting gassed more than early in the season. One of these games he is going to get hot from behind the arc.

- We need for Booker to get more minutes while gaining experience. He is our best perimeter shooter.... by far.

I would imagine that the players are too smart to waste their time following a fan message board. But, if they were, they would be laughing at anyone that would suggest that they are doing anything other than giving themselves the best chance to win by doing what they are doing.

Gary, I'm just confused about what you think a message board is for because every time we discuss capabilities, potential, how we played, how to improve, what types of players we need, etc. you try to throw it back in our faces. But that's why we come here...to discuss the team. To consider, to measure, to understand. No point in making it taboo to discuss ... even if we're wrong.

Oh, give me a break. I haven't called you any names or rendered any personal insults. The title of this thread is in my opinion a faulty and short sighted premise.

I don't know how you think it suppose to work. But, whenever I post an opinion that is generally unpopular or rubs some one the wrong way, I hear plenty about it and have sometimes had to defend my position unendingly.

I think you only considered your position from a narrow perspective and on this on I believe that you are wrong. It is as simple as that.
