"Nothing I could have done" - Jeff Capel

then what good is a message board for? Are we supposed to make up good stuff? Go ala Texas A&M football messageboard for the last 10 years?

I think Calaway said it best. It's not the complaining, it's complaining about the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER. The same posters found negative slants a year ago while we were playing in the NCAA tourney and subsequently heading to the elite eight.

Let's put it this way. They SAME posters have said Capel can't coach since his first year. Every year he's pretty much proven them wrong. Now, in the year he, admittedly, does a bad job in many areas AND has all the right things go wrong. They naysayers want to overlook the "perfect storm" of player issues and simply blame Capel for ALL OF IT. Not to mention, most of them really want him fired, but stop short of saying that so they appear to be "good fans".

NEWSFLASH to all the posters that say he did a bad job of evaluating players (mainly the burger boys) ----------- EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY RECRUITED THOSE PLAYERS!!!!

I liked what Coach had to say in the video. I think it's a good start at putting this mess behind him and the team.
My only thought is I wish he would have done this weeks ago. It's festered.

I won't disagree, Cheno, but look what happens when he finally does speak. The SAME people complain about what he actually said, so I'm not sure it really matters. In the end, HE knows what's going on and he only spoke to calm the fan-base and shut up the naysayers...

best pie in the world is without a doubt, banana cream pie

I'm still mad that Sonic dumped those cream pie shakes...I could go for a coconut cream pie shake RIGHT FRICKIN NOW...

This is false, and the reason I know it is false is because I was one of the people who criticized Capel and the athletic department for not talking sooner. You have not seen me complain about what he said. Not to speak for him, but I believe Mr. B! voiced the same concerns I did, and he certainly is not criticizing Capel for the content of his press conference.

Furthermore, it does not logically follow that people who were critical of Capel's silence have to like what it is that he said. Not sure why you think those who are critical of Capel's press conference aren't being honest about it. I mean, I disagree with a whole bunch of what Nick Zepp says, but I don't question whether or not he legitimately believes it.

I have to say that the post count criticism is incredibly lame. His or her argument can either stand on it's merits or it can't. Dismissing someone because of their post counts is just a lazy way to marginalize what they are saying.

If you will read my post again, you'll see that the point I was trying to make about post counts (perhaps I missed the mark in communicating it) was limited to this: That new arrivals to this board can't really have a good sense of the nature of this community at this point in time. It wasn't about questioning the worth of their input based on their post count -- I agree that that is generally a lame approach.

As I said above, this board stayed pretty positive for most of the season (though a new arrival admittedly wouldn't know that right now), and I've no doubt that when things are on the upswing, as we all hope they will be very soon, it'll be positive again.

I think anyone can be forgiven for feeling negative right now. Apparently, though, some aren't prepared to forgive them for having the audacity to post those negative feelings even at this, the lowest point for our program in forty-plus years.

Right, but if he would have spoken earlier it wouldn't have festered so much.
That's just my opinion.
And based on what I saw on the court this season and the complete utter mess this off-season I have to disagree that Coach knows exactly what's going on. I think he's finally starting to figure it out so he's comfortable to talk about it now. I don't think he had a clue about what was going on in the heads of WW, TMG, Tiny and others. He even alluded to the fact in the video.
I'm not going to be a naysayer, I'm behind Coach Capel, but I do think the naysayers have a strong case. I'm concerned about whether or not Coach can handle this situation. I'm behind him but very concerned about this upcoming season. I don't see how anyone couldn't be.

Once again, we're talking about apples and oranges. The naysayers, as I call them, are a group of posters that CONSTANTLY point out the negative and have since Capel got here. I have zero issues with a FAN complaining about the situation we're in now.

I don't think ANYONE could've known what was going on in those guy's heads.

I wasn't talking about YOU...

I wasn't talking about YOU...

I know, and this is my point. You are talking about some nebulous, faceless group of people that either so despise Jeff Capel or are so invested in being correct on a message board that they would actually be disappointed if Oklahoma won a national title with Coach Capel at the helm. If it walks like a strawman, quacks like a strawman....

In case anyone was wondering, not a big pie fan myself. I prefer savory foods to sweet.

Tony, did you see NPH on Celebrity Jeopardy?

Pretty much my two favorite things in the world colliding? You bet I did. Did you see HIMYM tonight? Not my favorite episode, though not terrible.

Did you see Wolf Blitzer on celebrity jeopardy? He finished in the negative and Andy Richter dominated him.
