Odomes and James

Re: Odomes and King

Presuming a one for one swap of Lattin or Manyang for Thomas.
And the other being the first off the bench.
Buford, Odomes, and James are going to provide a huge scoring punch off the
bench. Walker will be back to being a backup PG.
OU will be a legit 10 deep next year.

We SHOULD be 10 deep next year, but I thought we were gonna be 10 deep this year with Walker, Bufford, Lattin, Bennett, and Booker off the bench. We have to hope everyone qualifies and no one gets hurt.

Just wanted to bump, looked at the games since the start of the season to see what Odomes was doing. He's still ridiculous at scoring, and I would hope the ranking services would give him a boost to reward him. Think we found a diamond in the rough:

Since 1/1/2015, just had to look up news stories for results but:
8 games with stats
26.75 ppg
Only below 21 points in 1 game (12 points, 8 reb, 5 asst game on 1/6). If you take it out, avg goes to 28.9 PPG.

Against Killeen had 36, 13 reb, 4 asst, including 6-6 4th quarter for 17 points.

Hope we can get some senior highlights and cumulative stats at the end of the season

I agree with your "diamond in the rough" assessment. Odomes is an incredible athlete with well above average hops, but he also has skills, as his scoring average will confirm. My gut tells me he's going to be a good one.

I feel the same way about Christian James. By the way, I corrected the thread title. The last I heard James has not returned from his injury. Anyone out there with an update on his progress?

Odomes reminds me of Brandon Rush. I haven't seen as much of James but I feel both have the potential to start or fight Buford for the spot if Buddy leaves.

I don't have any information on his progress. But, the last time I went by practice I heard that the staff really doesn't want him to play this season.

I think that's a wise decision. Why risk aggravating the injury by bringing him back too early for less than half of his high school season? That's good news as far as I'm concerned!

Thanks for the update, Gary!

I'm pretty sure I saw a report that James had decided to shut down his senior season to be fully healthy for OU in the fall.
Not risk it it at all.

He's been shut down.

I like the odomes and rush comparison... Dude has that "it" factor

He'll be back and ready to go for summer workouts and on campus.

walker is not our back up PG now .. Cousins has been for quite a while

These guys look similar to Buddy and Cousins when they were coming out of high school. If they work as hard as Buddy and Cousins they can be very good. I think they may be a little more athletic and James was rated #1 shooting guard in Texas before his injury.

Is he currently competing in high school games?

Based on what Gary, atlantasooner and CoachTalk have said, I'm fairly sure he is working out again but not competing in games at the OU coaches request. That would also fit with the vid CoachTalk posted.

No. Im not sure its the coaches req (*bc that would be wrong to his HS coaches and teammates)
Not sure he's fully cleared to be in games.
