is this a video? am I the only one that it just shows a pic?
No. Im not sure its the coaches req (*bc that would be wrong to his HS coaches and teammates)
Not sure he's fully cleared to be in games.
I don't have any information on his progress. But, the last time I went by practice I heard that the staff really doesn't want him to play this season.
To be clear, the part about OU's coaching staff not wanting James to play came from something Gary heard when he attended an OU practice:
I'm not the least bit surprised that OU's coaches might have been involved in that decision. It wouldn't be the first time an OU basketball coach used his influence to keep a future player from risking an injury or prolonging an existing one by asking him to give it more time to heal.
Christian James will likely be at OU for the next four years, beginning this fall. Assuming he was even healthy enough to play out the remainder of his high school career, he would have had roughly six weeks left, and almost no time to get back in game shape before he played. That's a recipe for another disaster.
I applaud whoever made the decision, because it was the right thing to do.
I was at an AAU tournament this weekend in Houston watching my grandson play. HS players can't play but the Houston Hoops 8th grade team was there (top AAU organization in Houston). I was told by a coach Christian James is good to go now but is sitting out HS ball. The coach I talked with said he is a stud and blew up last summer. It's stuff you've already heard.
Odomes 34 pts (12-19fg) 15 Rebs 4ast 2 blocks and a steal
And a Win
Holy Moly! Rashard has been blowing up all season.
Am I the only one who thinks it might be hard to keep Odomes and Christian on the bench this fall? Not saying they'll start, but I will be very surprised if they don't compete for minutes in our rotation their first year. Booker and Walker had better take Buddy and Isaiah's cue, and put up tons of shots from the perimeter between now and next season.
Texas Class 6A Playoffs
Odomes’ 34 points lead Cove to Round 2
GLEN ROSE — Rashard Odomes was feeling good before the game. Afterward, he felt even better. Long before the opening-round game of the Class 6A playoffs tipped off, Copperas Cove’s senior standout could tell it was going to be a good night, and it did not take him long to prove it. Odomes scored the first seven points of the night, recording 11 of his game-high 34 points in the first quarter, propelling the Bulldawgs to a 69-57 victory against Lakeview Centennial.
Following the win, the Oklahoma commit, who also had 15 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal, said he could feel the big performance brewing.
“I was really feeling it during warm-ups,” Odomes said. “I was getting a good sweat in, running hard, and I was just feeling it. That really gave me a leap into the game, and everything just transferred over.” The Patriots had no answer for Odomes all evening as he connected on 12 of 19 field goal attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers, and 8 of 9 free throws.
The impressive performance did not surprise Copperas Cove head coach Billy White Jr. “He is that caliber of player,” White said. “Anytime he comes out and plays with intensity, that is what he is capable of doing. He is a special kid, and I want to win as many more games as I can so I can keep him as long as I can.”
With Odomes spearheading the offense, the Bulldawgs scored 15 unanswered points to start the game, holding the Patriots without a point until 2:04 remained in the period. Copperas Cove (20-13) went into the second quarter leading 19-6, and then the lead quickly ballooned to 18 points, 26-8, as Odomes found DaVonn Hopkins-Phelps for an easy basket in the paint.
But the advantage would not last. Lakeview Centennial (23-10) responded with 13-2 run to bridge the gap, shrinking the Bulldawgs’ advantage to five points, 34-29, by halftime.
Despite Odomes continuing to score at a torrid pace, producing at least six points in each quarter, the Patriots crept within three points at 52-49 early in the final period, but they could not get any closer. Copperas Cove answered with a 12-2 outburst en route to closing the game on a 17-8 run. “It was just a matter of the guys settling down and not trying to force something that wasn’t there,” White said. “When we did that, we were able to execute and get some layups and dunks.”
For Bulldawgs guard Devante Robinson, who scored 11 points on 3 of 3 shooting to go along with three assists, it was simply a matter of performing under pressure. “There is something about this team,” the junior said. “We just play and play, but once we are backed into a corner, that is when we really fight and show how well we can really play. It is just our will. We never give up.”
With the victory, the Bulldawgs, who had not won a postseason game in decades, advance into the area round of the playoffs, where they will face Berkner. But for now, Odomes is just enjoying the moment. “It feels real good,” he said. “Coach White let us know what was on the line before the game, so we just wanted to make history.”
Rashard could press Dante Buford for playing time if he stays in the SF role. James is probably more of a G/F physically, and might be a nice spark plug off the bench.
