Did anyone else think he looked tall as heck? When he was on the floor I thought my gosh he's every bit as tall as Bufford. Kid has great post moves and is quick and built like a 1 & done. His shot is pretty as well. Very excited about Odomes.

I posted on another thread that he also played his best defense of the year. He played help defense and also checked his man much better. He had a couple of defensive lapses, but that is why he got extended minutes.

Agree

I'm as giddy as a 12-year-old girl with her first training bra when I think about the impact Odomes and Christian James will have on this program.

Seems like the perfect "reload" for Kruger and company to replace Buddy and Cousins. If they will work half as hard as the two seniors than we will still be in very good hands over the next three years.

Throw in McGusty and strong and Buford as a 3, and we've got an excellent backcourt next year too.

Odomes won't be here 4 years . He is the most nba type player Kruger has signed while at OU .
His court maturity is very impressive for a freshman , but his first step for a 6'6 player is off the charts

If he plays to his potential the next 2 1/2 season he's gonna make some money

his shooting (and shooting form) will have to improve a bunch for him to leave early ..

Is Strong the jucu guy?

Yes, Darrion Strong, a 6' 1" 180 combo guard who was a third team JUCO All-American at perennial juco power Coffeyville CC. He had some impressive stats as a freshman last year:

6-1, 180, G, Chicago, Ill. (Coffeyville [Kan.] Community College)

Strong is a 6-1, 180-pound guard originally from Chicago, Ill. A three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Strong currently attends Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. As a freshman last season, he averaged 21.3 points and 2.2 assists per game while shooting .471 from the field and .420 from 3-point range. He was named freshman of the year and MVP of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and was named a third-team NJCAA All-American. So far this season, Strong has played in three contests, averaging 28.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

I can see Odomes filling a Gerald Henderson-type role, guarding the daylights out of wings and making his money at the bucket. He'll need to grow into his jumper to be a star-quality player, but his raw tools suggest he can at least be a salty roleplayer. Plus he's a lefty who loves drawing contact -- basically the exact thing scouts look for at the 2 spot these days.

I noticed in some of the pictures in Hawaii that Odomes was almost as tall as CJ Cole. That was even before this thread was posted. Maybe CJ wasn't standing up straight.

I looked up his updated stats for this season and attached a link. Coffeyville is only 7-6 overall now. Strong is their leading scorer at 18.2 ppg, 3.2 assist, 3.5 rebounds, and .9 steals...... and 2 turnovers. He's hitting 45.2% from the field, but only 32.3% from 3-point range. His FT percentage is 77%.

Thanks for the link, usedtobe1!

Strong's scoring is down from last year but his assists and rebounds are up, which seems to suggest that he is being asked to do more on this year's team. I also noticed that all but four players on Coffeyville's roster are freshmen, so they appear to be a really young team.

Maybe he has to force some outside shots because his team is not that good. I hope that is the case and at OU he will shoot better than 32% from 3 point range.

Yeah, I'm sure Strong is also getting a lot more attention defensively this year than he did as a true freshman last year. Especially if his teammates aren't as good.

Excellent point. I thought about that when I saw the number of freshmen on Coffeyville's roster this year.
